Overview
Hiring in both locations, but qualifications and requirements are exactly the same
Shift timings will be allocated based on need
Desiring career-oriented folks; those who are hired on with the collections department could grow internally with Sallie Mae, as they could be brought into new departments after working for a time. If qualified, can apply for internal roles.
Indy is an IT hub for Sallie Mae, so this could help you get in the door for IT.
Schedule adherence goals: Set time for break, set time for lunch. Follow a schedule every day throughout the day.
Candidates CAN be in school, and Sallie Mae will work around it while still having them meet the 40 hours. However, they must be able to provide proof through transcripts, etc.
Sallie Mae may accommodate school schedules, but they MUST be able to work full-time.
Interview Process
Interviews will be in-person. 30 minutes, 2 rounds at the same time - 60 minutes total onsite.
Training & Assessment
3 ½ weeks of education. Must pass weekly quizzes on specific topics, then take a final assessment. They get two times to pass. If they pass, they will have 10 days of on-the-job training and must pass 6 calls in that window before being released to direct manager.
Job Requirements
Call center position
On the phone, talking with customers who have fallen past due and are in financial duress
Helping customers bring their accounts back into good standing
Must be able to meet necessary goals and KPIs: Average handle time, wrap-up time after the call has been disconnected, conversion rate
Could take up to 100 calls a day in an 8-hour shift
Education and Experience
Degrees preferred - this is evidence to the HM of determination and willingness to get the job done.
Relevant job experience is a big plus. At least some work experience highly preferred.
Familiarity with call centers is a big plus, since this allows them to meet goals and KPIs without feeling intimidated.
No cap on max experience - career collectors are likely to be snatched up very fast by the hiring managers. If the candidate has worked for decades in an alternate career, less likely to pursue this candidate.
