Roles and Responsibilities
The purpose of the position is to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of disease by performing waived, moderately complex, and highly complex procedures in the Laboratory under the direction of the Laboratory Manager and Technical Supervisor. Provides data in the diagnosis and treatment of disease.
- Set up, maintain, calibrate, and operate instrumentation according to established policies and procedure.
- Draw blood
- Excellent phlebotomy skills
- Performs various chemical, microscopic, morphological, immunological and bacteriological testing and other tests as assigned.
Pace and Scheduling
- Job pace is determined by the speed of equipment or machinery and patient volume
- Requires meeting strict deadlines
Work Attire
- Requires wearing common protective or safety equipment
Work Setting
- Requires working indoors in environmentally controlled conditions
- Job tasks are performed in close physical proximity to other people
Qualifications and Education Requirements
Education – Must have either an Associate's of Science degree in medical laboratory technology or a bachelor's degree in medical technology, or successfully meet the requirements per CLIA for "Testing Personnel" (493.1489). Successful completion of internship program that qualifies for the ASCP Registry Exam preferred. Educational requirements to meet MLT or MT registry requirements preferred.
Experience – Two (2) years of pertinent full-time experience as an MT or MLT is preferred.
Licenses & Certification Eligible for or have passed a registry or certification exam given by a nationally recognized organization for medical laboratory technician, medical technologist, or clinical laboratory scientist preferred. Registered as ASCP is preferred.
