The Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe’s “Band Member Legal Service” is seeking a Conflict Attorney to provide legal services at the discretion of the Client’s Band Member Legal Services Office.

The legal services provided by the Conflict Attorney are for the purpose of direct representation of Mille Lacs Band Members in the Court of Central Jurisdiction (Mille Lacs Band Tribal Court), 7th Judicial District (Mille Lacs and Morrison Counties), 9th Judicial District (Aitkin and Crow Wing Counties), and the 10th Judicial District (Kanabec, Pine and Sherburne Counties).  Services may include; Representing Mille Lacs Band Members in family law (divorce, custody, third party custody, guardianship), child support, domestic violence, child protection, Indian Child Welfare Act, housing law, estate planning, probate, and consumer law.

Services include performing all functions necessary to effectively manage an assigned case load of approximately one-third of the conflict cases as assigned.  Such functions include, but not limited to, personal or virtual appearance at court hearings, all preparation, monitoring, advising, and communication with Band Member clients, determining and executing litigation strategy in the best interest of the protection of Mille Lacs Band Members and children.

Must be a graduate of an accredited Law School and have a license to practice law in the State of Minnesota and be willing to be licensed in the Court of Central Jurisdiction.  Prefer 3-5 years of practice in civil litigation and must have a valid Minnesota Driver’s License.
