The Pediatric Unit @ WIHD is seeking a Bilingual Pediatrician to ensure that patients receive comprehensive, appropriate and timely primary pediatric care according to NYS Working Together guidelines. The Pediatrician position is Part-Time, 28 Hours Per Week on a Hybrid schedule in White Plains, NY. Benefits include PTO, STD, LTD, Term Life, 403(b) ER Contribution.

The Pediatric Unit functions as the “Medical Home” for approximately 300 children in Westchester County family foster care and follows guidelines established by the American Academy of Pediatrics, Bright Futures and Working Together, and the New York State Office of Children and Family Services manual for health care for children in foster care.

Summary of Position: The pediatrician will provide comprehensive primary pediatric care to children placed in family foster care; participate in a schedule of after-hours availability by phone for urgent patient concerns; provide education to patients/families, DSS staff and Pediatric Unit nursing staff in addition to active outreach activities to engage community agencies and promote collaboration; contribute information for discharge planning and board rate assignments.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Direct patient care: Pediatric evaluations at scheduled on- site visits according to NYS Working Together guidelines; review of past medical records; referrals to specialists as indicated with follow-up of reports and recommendations; perform selected procedures on patients and interpret lab results; respond to phone inquiries during scheduled office hours and designated on-call hours on nights, weekends and holidays; complete forms and provide written reports or letters at the request of patients and DSS casework staff;
  • Education: Develop printed educational materials and present relevant topics to patients, families, Pediatric Unit staff, DSS casework staff and related community agencies; travel to DSS district offices to discuss updates and educate casework staff to promote effective collaboration; offer relevant on-site trainings to local medical and social agencies to promote effective working relationships; provide age-appropriate anticipatory guidance to patients and foster parents during in-office patient encounters;
  • Administrative: Track and report developmental screenings to Westchester County DOH Early Intervention personnel on a monthly basis; prepare information for entry into CNNX; contribute to discussions at regularly scheduled Foster Care Discharge Review and Special Board Rate Review meetings.

Education, Knowledge, and Skill Requirements

Knowledge of: Doctor of Medicine (MD) of Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree; ABP certification; valid NYS medical license, DEA registration and CPR certification; AAP membership. Preferred Knowledge of child welfare and/or vulnerable populations.

Kind and Length of Experience: Proficiency with computers and familiarity with electronic medical records; awareness and training in HIPAA compliance, cultural competence; bilingual (Spanish); excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills. Preferred Experience in public speaking; presentation of medical topics to a range of medical and non-medical audiences.

Language: Bilingual in English and Spanish
