Job Summary
As a Lead Structural Field Engineer, you will oversee subcontractor planning, execution, and quality for all steel-related construction activities. You'll ensure that field operations meet technical specifications, align with overall project schedules, and are executed safely and efficiently. This is a leadership-heavy role requiring strong technical judgment, field experience, and multi-party coordination.
Key Responsibilities
  • Provide technical direction for all structural steel construction activities.
  • Coordinate with supervision for scheduling and material deliveries.
  • Prepare steel and concrete installation work packages.
  • Lead field inspections and document installation quality.
  • Perform quantity take-offs and forecasting for civil/structural scopes.
  • Interface with engineering to resolve design or constructability issues.
  • Guide subcontractors on compliance with project specs and safety standards.
  • Handle material requisitions, vendor coordination, and review vendor drawings.
  • Assist with change orders and maintain as-built documentation.
  • Interpret design drawings and assure materials meet storage standards.
  • Assist with construction estimates and recommend safety improvements.
Required Experience
  • 6–8 years of civil/structural field engineering experience
  • Experience with direct hire craft operations (preferred)
  • Contract management in engineering/construction environments
Required Skills
  • Structural steel and concrete construction
  • Field supervision and technical oversight
  • Strong grasp of industry codes and construction standards
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and resolve constructability issues
  • Competence in documentation, inspections, and change management
Preferred Skills
  • Familiarity with project automation tools: ACONEX, TEAMWorks, BSAPs, eSub
  • Mining & Metals industry project experience
  • Understanding of *** Standard Work Process Procedures
  • Knowledge of productivity and performance tracking systems
Additional Skills
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills
  • Proficiency in MS Office, spreadsheets, and databases
  • Exposure to construction estimation and environmental compliance
