This class performs preventive maintenance and minor repairs on light equipment and automotive equipment.

 

This is a "mandatory-testing" position that requires Drug Testing.

 

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES

Performs preventive and routine maintenance to equipment and vehicles by checking fluid levels, adding fluids, draining engine oil, replacing filters, replacing oil, changing radio numbers of vehicles, inventorying equipment to ensure vehicle is properly equipped, and performing other related activities

 

Performs minor repairs on light equipment by removing and replacing radiators, water pumps, brakes, belts, wipers, and other related equipment

 

Prepares vehicles for sale, which includes inventorying vehicles being stripped for sale

 

Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

 

TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualification Requirements:

 

Training and Experience:

High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.); or, a combination of education and experience equivalent to these requirements.

 

Licenses and Certifications: 

Possess a valid Class "A" or "B" commercial driver's license or the ability to obtain within six months of employment

 

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics (KSAO's):

Applicable tools and equipment utilized in the trade

Preventive maintenance practices

Automotive servicing principles and practices

Utilizing applicable tools and equipment of the trade

Performing preventive maintenance activities

Servicing vehicles and equipment

Maintaining basic records

Performing minor mechanical repairs to vehicles and equipment

Communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.

Emergency Management Responsibilities:

During emergency conditions, the incumbent of this position will automatically be considered an emergency service worker. This employee is subject to being called to work in the event of a disaster, such as a hurricane, or other emergency situation and is expected to perform emergency service duties as assigned.

 

Physical Requirements:

Positions in this class typically require: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, finger and hand dexterity as well as repetitive motions.

Heavy Work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of forces constantly to move objects.

Incumbents may be subjected to fumes, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions, intense noises and travel.
