Job Description
We are looking for a mobile service technician to join our team. The base of operations will be the home office in Antigo. It is anticipated to start the day from the home office 90% of the time.
The service technician is responsible for on the road repairs and in-house repairs and flow testing of SCBA (self-contained breathing apparatus, also called air-paks).
The individual must be able to trouble shoot electrical and mechanical issues and determine efficient, cost effective and professional solutions to problems and perform repairs. Individual will work with vendor technical support on many occasions.
Must take great pride in their work so the customer has a positive view of the technician, their skills and a positive reflection of the company.
The ability to listen and maintain a calm demeaner (verbally, body language, and response) to a customer when listening to needs, wants, and complaints is extremely important.
Individuals will primarily work independently but will occasionally work as part of a team. The ideal candidate must possess good 12vdc electrical skills for hardwired and multiplex electrical systems. An understanding of 120vac electrical system will be needed but can be taught. Good verbal and good written communication skills are needed. If skills are missing, must have a large eagerness and willingness to learn.
We are a small family-owned company with a “family” atmosphere. It has been family owned since its beginning, and our employees are an extension of the family.
Flexible hours required. We will try to keep a standard 8-hour day but this is not always possible for over-the-road repairs.
Position can be full time or part-time at 3 to 4 days per week. Position may be a good fit for a partially retired person.
Competitive hourly pay based on experience level at time of hire.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Technician for Scott SCBA flow testing and air pak repairs, both on the road and in-house
- Mobile repair truck provided for road work
- Ability to plan and schedule efficient road trips
- Annual flow testing of SCBA
- Leak checks, pressure testing, visual inspections, troubleshooting
- Ability to work with, replace, and repair electronics
- Ability to work with, replace, and repair small parts
- Ability to consult equipment operating manuals, blueprints, electrical diagrams, and drawings
- Inventory management of SCBA parts and equipment
- Cylinder and cylinder valve maintenance
Repair fire hose: Cut hose, take coupling apart, assembly coupling and hose back together
Perform fire apparatus pump testing: On the road at customer location
- Ability to physically handle and work with 6.0” suction hose, 2.50” fire hose, deck gun and operate fire apparatus to perform test
In-House fire extinguisher processing: Check in extinguishers, process for work that needs to be completed, route to proper vendor to have work completed
Ability to read and understand electrical diagrams and prints
Write service reports that accurately document activities
Talk with customers on the phone, via email, and in person to diagnose issues and determine solutions. Proper phone etiquette is required
Ability to read, interpret and discuss information with various customers on numerous subjects specific to our business
Potentially perform 12vdc and 120vac electrical repairs on vehicles at customer’s location and in the shop
Potentially perform mechanical repairs on vehicles at customer’s location and in the shop
Potentially perform new product installations on vehicles at customer’s location and in the shop
Potentially perform office work processing purchase orders and other similar work
Requirements:
Positive ‘Can Do’ Attitude required
Ability and willingness to learn new skills for electrical (Relays, Breakers, Multiplex, Interlocks, etc..)
Ability to think on your feet and “outside the box”
Mindset that no job is beneath you
Ability to use all functions of a multimeter and other electrical diagnostic tools
Ability to consult equipment operating manuals, blueprints, electrical diagrams, and drawings
Color vision is very helpful due to color coding of electrical wires
Professional, calm, customer service demeanor with customers and colleagues
Ability to listen and follow instructions from Service Manager and Lead Technicians
Ability to remember process, procedures, and repeatable installation instructions
Ability to troubleshoot, determine issues, and perform repairs
Ability to read electrical diagrams preferred, if cannot, ability and willingness to learn
Excellent ability to read and understand installation manuals to perform installations / repairs
Complete reports of work completed, then send to service manager and save to customer files
Maintain a clean, organized, professional work area
Computer Skills
Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Adobe Acrobat
Flexible hours with travel required
A valid driver’s license is
If do not have a Class B CDL, must be willing to and able to attain license after employment
Ability to successfully multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment
Excellent attention to detail
Independent judgment and decision-making skills that will complete the repairs in an efficient, cost effective, and profitable manner
Education and/or Experience
High school diploma (or equivalent) required
- Fire / EMS service background preferred, not required
- 2+ years’ service industry experience preferred
