Description

Summary/Objective
The Delivery & Bulk Loads Transportation Specialist is responsible for the safe, timely, and efficient delivery of gas, welding-related products, and hazardous materials to customer and branch locations. This role requires strict adherence to all federal, state, and local regulations (including DOT, FDA, OSHA, and EPA), and represents the company professionally while interfacing with customers regarding products, deliveries, and related issues. The specialist must maintain the highest standards of safety, security, and professionalism, especially when handling hazardous materials.

Essential Functions
- Gather and coordinate daily customer billing papers and order requests, including will-call and hot shot deliveries.
- Learn and efficiently execute all assigned routes with minimal supervision.
- Load, unload, and secure products—including hazardous materials—onto vehicles, ensuring compliance with all safety protocols and handling procedures.
- Deliver products to customers/branches, abiding by load safety, DOT, and general safe driving guidelines.
- Complete route and scheduled pick-up/delivery of cylinders and products, including hazardous materials.
- Maintain proper cleanliness of assigned vehicles and perform pre- and post-trip inspections.
- Follow a routine maintenance program for trucks and report any mechanical issues.
- Complete and maintain accurate logs, reports, shipping manifests, hazardous materials manifests, and delivery receipts.
- Adhere to all company and government safety guidelines, including attending safety meetings and training.
- Act as backup for other company driving positions as CDL endorsements allow.
- Assist with fill plant operations and other duties as assigned to ensure operational effectiveness.
- Maintain effective communication with dispatchers, customers, and team members regarding delivery status, delays, and incidents.
- Be prepared to respond to emergencies (spills, leaks, accidents) involving hazardous materials, following proper procedures and reporting incidents immediately.
- Plan and manage routes efficiently to ensure timely deliveries while adhering to Hours of Service (HOS) regulations.
- Provide excellent customer service and resolve or report customer complaints as needed.
- Adhere to company-specific security protocols to prevent unauthorized access to hazardous materials.


 

Qualifications


Competencies
- Possess a valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with necessary endorsements, including hazardous materials (H) endorsement.
- Clean driving record with no major violations or accidents.
- Must submit to all required DOT testing, including random drug testing and physicals.
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations for transporting hazardous materials, including placarding, labeling, and emergency response.
- Ability to plan and organize truck loads and delivery schedules.
- Capable of completing basic mathematical calculations and entering correct information on logs and reports.
- Excellent communication skills for interacting with team members, customers, and authorities.
- Physically fit and capable of lifting heavy objects (sometimes in excess of 100–300 pounds), climbing, and standing for extended periods.
- Safety-conscious and able to make quick, sound decisions in emergencies.
- Willingness to work extended hours, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Familiarity with various routes and geographic locations for efficient travel.
- Mentally adaptable and flexible in dealing with a variety of people and situations.

Physical Demands
- Able to move or lift products and materials of varied sizes and weights, sometimes in excess of 100–300 pounds.
- Position requires prolonged sitting, some bending, stooping, and climbing.

Preferred Education and Experience
- Minimum of one year prior city delivery and over-the-road driving experience strongly preferred.
- Experience handling hazardous materials is a significant advantage.
