UPMC Somerset is seeking a dedicated and skilled Occupational Therapist to join our rehabilitation team. This role offers a dynamic mix of acute care and outpatient therapy, providing services to a diverse patient population. The ideal candidate will bring expertise in hand and upper extremity therapy, CVA rehabilitation, and work hardening/FCE evaluations, with a passion for delivering high-quality, patient-centered care.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform comprehensive occupational therapy assessments, reassessments, and treatments for pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
  • Develop and adjust individualized plans of care based on physician referrals, patient needs, and clinical findings.
  • Supervise Occupational Therapy Assistants and collaborate to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation including initial assessments, progress notes, and discharge summaries.
  • Communicate effectively with referring physicians and interdisciplinary team members regarding patient status and progress.
  • Provide home exercise programs and education to patients and families.
  • Participate in clinical education by supervising students from affiliated academic institutions.
  • Rotate through treatment areas as needed to support organizational needs.
  • Attend and contribute to staff meetings and in-service education programs.
  • Maintain professional licensure and pursue continuing education to stay current with best practices.

  • Graduate of an accredited program approved by The Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE)
  • Experience or strong interest in outpatient occupational therapy, particularly:
    • Hand and upper extremity rehabilitation
    • Stroke (CVA) recovery
    • Work hardening and Functional Capacity Evaluations (FCE)
  • Strong clinical reasoning and communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • Active license in practicing state required. 
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
    • CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.
  • National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT)
  • Occupational Therapist (OT)
  • Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal
  • Act 33 with renewal
  • Act 34 with renewal
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
