Job Summary

This part-time temporary Maintenance & Facilities Assistant position works as part of a team to maintain and provide support to housing operations throughout the organization. The Maintenance & Facilities Assistant position is responsible for ensuring smooth housing operations and improving safety across housing sites according to safety guidelines and Bridges to Change procedures. This is a temporary role through the end of the year with possibility of extension.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Interacts with a diverse population effectively, through effective communication with house managers, residents and community partners
  • Assists with the opening and closing of all properties
  • Assist with moving and delivering household items including furniture and appliances.
  • Performs preventative maintenance, pest control and repairs to enhance the livability and general condition of each property, as assigned. Responsible for replacing furnace filters for all locations.
  • Coordinates and delivers house supplies
  • Performs annual and quarterly housing site inspections
  • Assists with improving safety measures and monitors Narcan/Fire Extinguishers
  • Handle tasks like painting, cleaning designated areas, and maintaining the grounds for a well-kept appearance.
  • Performs general labor, as needed
  • Coordinate and pick up donations
  • Regularly reports on overall maintenance and upkeep of properties
  • Assist with stocking housing supply area and monitoring inventory.
  • Abides by organization policies and procedures, confidentiality laws and Fair Housing guidelines.

Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

The following are the minimum levels required to successfully perform the Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities.

  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record in accordance with Bridges to Change’s auto liability policy requirements
  • Familiarity with general maintenance including plumbing and electrical systems, required
  • 1-3 years general residential facilities maintenance experience, preferred
  • Ability to lift and carry tools and equipment weighing up to 50 lbs. and to sustain prolonged periods of standing, walking, and stooping as part of regular job duties
  • Ability to operate hand tools and power equipment safely and efficiently
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and maintain an organized workspace
  • Demonstrated ability to efficiently manage urgent operational demands while prioritizing tasks to ensure continuity and effectiveness
  • Proven proactive approach in identifying, addressing, and resolving facility-related issues to maintain a safe and functional environment
  • Demonstrated success at working effectively in a diverse, collaborative team environment, with skills in promoting inclusion and cultural responsiveness
  • Experience in collaborating with community partners to identify shortcomings in the organization and in building partnerships to improve outcomes
  • Excellent communication, trauma informed approach and conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to maintain high professional standards at all times with client, staff, and community partners
  • GED/High School Diploma, preferred

Working Conditions

Environment and Physical Requirements: The Maintenance & Facilities Assistant position frequently visits field locations including homes, recovery centers, office buildings and other indoor and outdoor locations. Those locations are subject to a variety of environmental weather conditions including rain, snow, wind, and dust. The position frequently requires daily travel by car. The Housing Site Coordinator position interacts constantly with staff, tenants, and others. The position stands, walks, bends, lifts, and moves intermittently during working hours. The incumbent must be able to lift, push, pull and move files and equipment in excess of 50 pounds.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: This is a part-time position. Days and hours of work are typically Monday through Friday, twenty hours per week with flexibility in scheduling. The Maintenance & Facilities Assistant position also travels extensively and may be required to occasionally work extended hours including evening, weekend and/or holiday work as job duties demand.
