About this job

Are you an experienced educator who enjoys stepping into dynamic environments and inspiring young learners? RAFT is seeking a Substitute Lead Teacher to be on call to deliver our engaging STEAM curriculum and create memorable experiences for campers. When not serving as a substitute, you’ll support RAFT Administrators, contributing to smooth camp operations.

This is an excellent opportunity for an educator with strong classroom management skills who wants to make a meaningful impact while upholding RAFT’s high standards for camp facilitation.

What You’ll Do

  • Deliver RAFT’s hands-on STEAM curriculum, adapting lessons as needed to keep campers actively engaged.
  • Lead a classroom of up to 20 campers, fostering collaboration, creativity, and a positive learning atmosphere.
  • Participate in at least 9 hours of onboarding, professional development, and staff meetings before camp begins.
  • Maintain a clean, organized classroom by modeling and reinforcing good habits of tidiness.
  • Work with minimal supervision from the Site Director, ensuring programs run smoothly.
  • Assist RAFT Administrators with camp operations when not substituting for lead teachers.
  • Provide guidance and support to 1–2 Teaching Assistants assigned to assist with learning activities.

What We’re Looking For

  • A genuine interest in working with young children in K–5 educational settings.
  • Availability for at least one full week, Monday through Friday.
  • Ability to quickly learn and facilitate new materials.
  • Creative, patient, and positive approach to teaching.
  • Strong multitasking, prioritization, and time management skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Must obtain TB Risk Assessment and fingerprint clearance (covered by RAFT).
  • CBEST, valid California Teaching Credential, or enrollment in/completion of a teacher credential program.
  • At least one year of teaching or student program management experience.

Why Join RAFT's STEAM Camp?

At RAFT, we believe in sparking curiosity and building confidence through creative, hands-on STEAM learning. As a Substitute Lead Teacher, you’ll have the chance to inspire campers, support a mission-driven team, and develop your own teaching skills in a fun, supportive environment.
