Cheerleading Assistant Coach

Position: Cheerleading Assistant Coach
Location: Garfield Heights High School
Position Type: Part Time, Stipend

Job Description:

Garfield Heights City Schools is seeking a motivated and supportive Winter Cheerleading Assistant Coach to help guide and develop our high school cheer program. The Assistant Coach will work under the direction of the Head Coach to provide technical instruction, promote school spirit, and mentor student-athletes in both performance and personal growth. The ideal candidate will bring energy, knowledge of cheerleading techniques, and a strong commitment to fostering teamwork, safety, and sportsmanship.

Key Responsibilities:

• Program Support: Assist the Head Coach with planning, organizing, and leading practices, game-day performances, and special events.

• Skill Instruction: Provide instruction in cheer fundamentals, crowd-leading, stunts, jumps, and tumbling, while reinforcing safety techniques.

• Mentorship: Serve as a positive role model, promoting academic accountability, discipline, teamwork, and respect.

• Safety & Compliance: Support adherence to OHSAA, NFHS Spirit Rules, and Garfield Heights City Schools policies for cheerleading safety and eligibility.

• Game & Event Preparation: Assist in preparing routines and leading the cheer squad at basketball games, pep rallies, and community events.

• Supervision: Help monitor and supervise student-athletes during practices, games, and travel to ensure safety and proper conduct.

• Collaboration: Work closely with the Head Coach, athletic staff, and administration to promote school spirit and program consistency.

• Program Operations: Contribute to scheduling, equipment and uniform management, and communications with students and families.

• Other Duties: Carry out additional responsibilities as assigned by the Head Coach, Athletic Director, or school administration.

Qualifications:

• Valid Pupil Activity Permit with the Ohio Department of Education

• Satisfactory BCI/FBI background checks

• Prior cheerleading or coaching experience preferred

• Strong knowledge of cheerleading fundamentals, safety rules, and performance techniques

• Excellent communication and collaboration skills

• Demonstrated commitment to student-athlete growth, academic achievement, and well-being
