About New York Junior Tennis & Learning
New York Junior Tennis and Learning (NYJTL) is one of the largest afterschool tennis and education-themed community organizations in the United States. We offer comprehensive school and community-based programs throughout New York City’s five boroughs, annually serving around 100,000 NYC youth ages 5-18.
The NYJTL afterschool program provides children with safe and nurturing environments in which they can learn and thrive academically, while receiving critical support to reach their potential both on and off the tennis court. The NYJTL afterschool program operates in elementary, middle and high schools located in the Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan and Queens. NYJTL is seeking bright, dedicated individuals who have a strong interest in working with afterschool programs.
Position Summary
Inspire students using your specific talents and skills!
Activity Specialists lead fun, skill-based activities in areas like dance, arts, sports, and more. You’ll create and run lesson plans, engage youth in group activities, and collaborate with Group Leaders to support student growth. No tennis experience needed—just a strong interest in working with youth and expertise in your craft. Knowledge of after-school programs and NYC DYCD/DOH guidelines is a plus.
Core Responsibilities
Supervise participants while maintaining order, providing a conducive learning environment, ensuring their safety.
Supervise and ensure the safety of program participant
Create and lead weekly activity plans in your area of expertise
Facilitate engaging, skill-building lessons that support youth development
Serve as a positive role model and provide individualized support as needed
Collaborate with Group Leaders and support their professional growth
Manage behavior and maintain a respectful, structured environment
Support meals, dismissal, trips, and events as needed
Complete 15 hours of professional development annually
Attend required meetings and trainings
Perform additional duties as assigned to support smooth program operations
Participate in professional development opportunities
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required
2+ years' experience working with K–8 youth
Must have a specialty (Lesson available upon request)
Must be available for the full school year program
2025–2026 school year (starting September)
Schedule:
- Program Start Date: September 15th
- Monday - Friday
- Schedules vary between 2:00pm - 6:00pm depending on school day dismissal time

Salary
- $20.50 - $23.50 per hour
