Shift Schedule: Monday-Friday: 8AM-4PM
Hours Per Week: 35 

General Responsibilities 

Ensure the safe and timely transportation of program participants, maintain vehicles, and provide essential support to programs for older adults 

Primary Responsibilities 

  • Safely transport program participants 
    • Drive assigned vehicles to transport program participants to and from scheduled trips, ensuring their comfort and safety 
    • Provide assistance as needed 
  • Vehicle maintenance and operations 
    • Arrange for fuel and oil purchases according to agency procedures 
    •  Perform routine checks of fluids, tires, and ensure the vehicle is equipped with necessary emergency equipment (spare tire, jack, etc.) 
    • Change tires if necessary 
    • Maintain vehicles in a clean condition at all times 
    • Accurately complete and maintain trip tickets and other required records
  •  Safety and compliance 
    • Immediately report all accidents or traffic violations to the supervisor 
    • Strictly adhere to all traffic regulations 
  • Program support 
    • Communicate with program participants regarding trip participation and follow-ups 
    • Collect contributions from participants, issue receipts, and account for all funds collected to the supervisor as needed 
    • Alert the Program Director or designee immediately to any unusual situations or concerns observed with program participants (e.g., appears ill, behavioral changes, doesn't respond to the driver) 
    • Assist with meal preparation, serving and program set up at the center as needed ○ Enter unit information into NYC Aging electronic database for trips and other programs as needed 
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications 

  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred 
  • Driving Experience 
    • Minimum of three (3) years of driving experience with a valid NY State driver’s license and no more than one moving violation within the last two years; one (1) year of driving experience with a valid NY State Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and no moving violations preferred 
    • Candidates with three (3) years of clean driving experience but without a CDL must be willing to obtain their CDL within six (6) months of hire; JASA will reimburse for CDL classes and testing for drivers in good standing 
  • No history of driving while intoxicated (DWI) convictions 
  • Must be available to work extended hours during the week or weekends as required for "Cooling Center Hours," "Make Up Days," or other responses ordered by City funders for older adult center members 
  • Ability to lift heavy objects, climb stairs, and stand for extended periods 
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English clearly 
  • Ability to relate effectively and empathetically with older adults
