TITLE: ISAC Uzbek Office Hours Navigator  

TASK SUPERVISOR: Program Manager  

EMPLOYEMENT TYPE: Contractor  

COMPENSATION: $18 hourly 

HOURS: 8 hours weekly at the Office Hours location working with clients; 10-15 hours a week for completion of paperwork and team meetings.  Initially additional hours will be required for training.   Hours will be flexible, occasionally requiring less or more depending on number of clients.   

QUALIFICATIONS 

Must be fluent in Uzbek and English; fluency in Russian a plusExcellent organizational and communication skills; willingness to learn new skills and apply them quickly; sensitive to cultural differences of clients and staff from diverse backgrounds; data entry and willingness to learn the ISAC database; computer and internet search skillsWillingness to work in a community-based space (library) in the South Hills of Pittsburgh one day a weekAbility to apply for and maintain child abuse, criminal background and FBI screening to be cleared for workA valid PA driver’s license and ability to maintain insurance is recommended but not required 

POSITION DESCRIPTION 

The Immigrant Services and Connections (ISAC) program is a multi-agency partnership which assists immigrants residing in Allegheny County navigate U.S. systems. Navigator will (initially) work Mondays 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM at a community-based site assisting Uzbek community members with a variety of needs including but not limited to referrals to programs/services, completing benefit applications, cultural orientation, medical appointments, etc.   

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  

Comprehensive training will be provided on the following required tasks: 

  • Adhere to ISAC program policies and maintain strict professional/personal boundaries with clients. 
  • Complete all related paperwork and enter it in the database in a timely manner. 
  • Submit monthly invoice on or before the 10th of the month.  
  • Participate in ISAC skill development and training opportunities as directed. 
  • Independently host office hours location and work with clients on a first come first served basis. Will help clients process, sort, prioritize and address mail. 
  • Help clients connect and communicate with landlords, children’s teachers, social service providers, etc. and provide appropriate referrals to other desired services and resources including but not limited to employment services, food pantry, legal services  
  • Assist clients with making medical appointments and teaching clients how to independently make appointments, refill prescriptions and address their individual and family health care needs. 
  • Assist clients with public benefit applications via paper or online (SNAP, Cash, MA, low-income utility programs, WIC, etc.) while teaching them how to renew their benefits and use them appropriately in grocery stores, etc. 
  • Connect clients to appropriate services available to them including assisting with the completion/submission of applications and related paperwork linked to U.S. systems including but not limited to schools, health care providers, social service providers, and government benefit programs. 
  • Provide cultural orientation for clients on a wide variety of topics related to residence in Allegheny County/United States.  
  • Collaborate with third-party entities on behalf of clients to advocate for their cultural, linguistic and religious needs. 
  • Share information on ISAC Office Hours within Pittsburgh’s Uzbek community.  
  • Represent ISAC at community resource fairs and other tabling events.   
  • Occasional assistance with translating and/or proofing ISAC marketing materials from English to Uzbek.
