SD Field Welder

The field welder position is responsible for field welding pipe spools and general fabricated steel on location and pulling the measurements required for a dimensionally sound products. This position may also require non-welding tasks, to assist other departments in field. This individual is also responsible for giving direction to a welder’s helper that will assist in all setup tasks.

Roles and Responsibilities 

The job duties and responsibilities of this position will include, but are not limited to, the following:  

• 
  Use hand-welding or flame-cutting equipment to weld or join metals components, or to fill holes, indentations, or seams of fabricated metal products or pipe. 
• 
  Read a Weld Procedure Specification (WPS) to produce a weld according to the requirements of the procedure. 
• 
  Stick weld components in flat, vertical or overhead positions. Ignite torches or start power suppliers and strike arcs by touching electrodes to metals being welded. 
• 
  Fabricate and construct piping segments and attach fittings that require field fit-up, erection and assembly. 
• 
  Clamp, hold, tack-weld, heat-bend, grind or bolt component parts to obtain required configurations and positions for welding. 
• 
  Detect faulty operation of equipment or defective materials and notify supervisors. 
• 
  Recognize, set-up and operate hand and power tools common to the welding trade, such as shielded metal arc and gas metal arc welding equipment. 
• 
  Follows all safety policies and procedures. 
• 
  Performs other job-related duties as assigned. 

Requirements 

• 
  At least 2 years of experience in field welding. 
• 
  Proficient in SMAW and TIG welding procedures  
• 
  Physical Demands: Occasional sitting, frequent stooping, crouching, kneeling, balancing and climbing and constant standing, walking, reaching and gripping. 
• 
  Material Handling: Lifting from floor level to overhead, with occasional lifting up to 115 lbs., frequent lifting up to 50 lbs., and constant lifting up to 25 lbs.

  Required Education: High School diploma and/or equivalent work experience. 
• 
  Must successfully pass a background check and drug test
