Responsibilities:
- Install air conditioning/heating systems in private residences.
- Utilize knowledge of refrigeration theory, pipefitting, and structural layout.
- Mount compressor and condenser units on platforms or floors using hand tools and blueprints.
- Fabricate, assemble, and install ductwork.
- Install evaporator units in chassis or air duct systems.
- Cut and bend tubing to correct lengths and shapes.
- Join tubing or pipe to refrigerating units using sleeves, couplings, or unions, and solder joints.
- Install expansion and discharge valves in circuits.
- Connect motors, compressors, temperature controls, humidity controls, and ventilation fans to control panels and power sources.
- Inject refrigerant into compressors to test systems and add freon gas to build up operating pressure.
- Observe pressure and vacuum gauges, adjust controls for efficient operation.
- Test joints and connections for gas leaks, wrap pipes in insulation batting, and secure them with cement or wire bands.
- Hang air handlers, install flex and/or metal ductwork, run copper condensation & Freon lines.
Experience:
- One year of field-related experience and/or training.
- Prior installation/construction experience preferred but not required.
- Ability to read and comprehend blueprints/plans.
Requirements:
- EPA certified.
- Ability to pass a replacement installation examination.
- Physical strength to move objects weighing 80+ pounds.
- Ability to ascend or descend ladders, scaffolding, stairs, and inclined surfaces.
- Must meet attendance requirements.
- Ability to frequently work in tight confined spaces.
- Clean 39-month driving record and valid driver's license preferred.
