Graduate of a Nurse Anesthesia Educational Program accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthetist.
Certification & Licensures:
Current licensure to practice as a CRNA in the state of Missouri.

Core Responsibilities:
Maintains the standards of anesthesia care and implements the related policies and procedures of the medical center and the Surgery department.
- Is able to organize and set priorities when performing anesthesia duties and responsibilities. Performs psychological evaluations to assist in the development of rehabilitation plans for outpatients and inpatients
Reviews and follows the Anesthesiologists plan of care including the pre-anesthetic assessment and evaluation, anesthetic type and risk classification.
- Reviews the patient's current health status and medical history, including pertinent lab work before administering any anesthetic. Refers any questions/concerns to the supervising anesthesiologist. Ensures that the supervising anesthesiologist is notified of induction and emergence from anesthesia.
Demonstrates proficiency in all modes of administering general anesthesia.
- Competent to perform and/or monitor any procedure involving regional anesthesia, including labor epidural analgesia. Administers the anesthetics, adjuvant drugs, accessory drugs, and fluids necessary to manage the anesthetic, to maintain the patient's physiologic homeostasis, and corrects abnormal responses to the anesthesia or surgery. Capably manages the patient's airway and pulmonary status. Manages emergence and recovery from anesthesia by administering medications, fluids, or ventilator support in order to maintain homeostasis, to provide relief from pain and anesthesia side effects, or to prevent or manage complications. Capable of responding to emergency situations by providing airway management, administration of emergency fluids or drugs, or basic or advanced cardiac life support techniques.
Implementation of safe and appropriate care of the patient.
- Checks all anesthesia equipment, i.e., gas machines, monitors, etc., prior to its use, to ensure the integrity of the system and documents. Capable of troubleshooting all anesthesia related equipment. Provides a comfortable environment for the patient and maintains patient dignity and identifies unsafe situations and reports to the appropriate person. Confers with the surgeon/supervising anesthesiologist as to the method of positioning to provide optimum safety for the patient and access for the surgeon. Adheres to all department policies, procedures and standards related to technical skills (i.e., application of monitoring equipment, drawing of ABG's, hanging blood, etc.) and is competent in performance of technical skills. Ensures that a "Time Out" occurs with active participation from the OR team.
Reports pertinent patient data, observations and reactions to supervising anesthesiologist and documents observations accurately.
- Notifies the supervising anesthesiologist and surgeon as appropriate of any undue responses, i.e., hypotension, cardiac dysrhythmias, etc. who will assist as needed. Provides legible documentation of anesthesia care given, patient responses and relevant times. Ensures supervising anesthesiologist co-signs anesthetic record. Thoroughly and consistently completes anesthesia patient charges. Provides for continuity of patient care by reporting specific patient data to the appropriate health care providers, i.e., OR circulators, PACU, etc.
Demonstrates knowledge and skills to perform safe and effective patient care and/or interaction with all age groups.
- Evaluates age appropriate motor skills and psychological norms. Recognizes patient's psychological development. Interview/communication techniques are age appropriate. Assesses safety needs based on age groups and provides safety measures based on that assessment. Uses appropriate sized equipment for size and age of patient. Completes age specific newsletters and associated tests.
Provides a Clean and Safe Patient Environment/Work Area.
- OR Room organized, all equipment removed and stored in proper place to include x-ray aprons, positioning devices, etc. All equipment/instruments stored in appropriate places in center core. Actively participates in the time out and the "WHO" checklist.
