RN - Surgery - PRN

Georgetown Community Hospital a 12 minute drive from Lexington, KY is searching for a Registered Nurse to join our Surgical Services unit.  This is a PRN position and you would join a highly skilled team of OR nurses, physicians, technicians, and anesthesiologists working to deliver optimal patient care.  Your graduation of an accredited school of nursing, current RN license, and current BLS and ACLS certification are the minimum requirements.

Job Responsibilities

·         As an RN you will perform plan of care intervention, including medication administration, specimen collection, clinical treatments, as well as other medical care treatment.

·         Monitor, record, and communicate patient condition as appropriate to care team, physician, patient, and family.

·         Monitors surgical asepsis, sterile technique, prepares and positions patients for the procedure. Ensures all equipment, supplies and instrumentation are validated and present prior to procedure.

·         Assesses and cares for the surgical patient throughout the intraoperative process. Assists with preoperative preparation and postoperative care.

·         Operates specialized equipment for procedures. Maintains a safe surgical environment.

·         Assist patients with performing activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, elimination, nutrition, and ambulation.

·         Collaborate as needed across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including patient transfer, discharge, referral and spiritual/psychosocial support needs.

·         Evaluate learning needs of patient and/or family and provides patient/family education appropriate to age, culture, condition, and circumstances.

·         Work as an advocate for the physical and emotional well-being of the patient.

·         Document patient care given. 

Qualifications

·         Associate’s Degree ADN from an accredited school of nursing.

·         Bachelor’s degree BSN or higher preferred

·         Current unencumbered license by KY Board of Nursing

·         BCLS certification

·         ACLS certification

·         1 year previous Surgical / Operating Room experience preferred

·         The RN requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.   Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
