Description
Position Summary
The Registered Dental Assistant is a member of the interdisciplinary health care team which functions to meet the objectives of the programs of Northeast Community Clinic. The Registered Dental Assistant will be responsible for providing complete in-scope care for all patients under the direction of the supervising licensed dentist(s), the Dental Director, by written protocols of the Management Staff.
Schedule:
• Flexible, may require some evening and weekends
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
• Reviews patient health and social history to ensure a comprehensive and complete dental chart
• Provides patient education on various topics, including oral care techniques and overall dental health, to patients.
• Review chart findings and exercises ordered services in accordance with established NECC Management, CHDP, American Dental Association, and other dental standards and guidelines.
• Consults with other members of the health care team regarding individual needs of specific patients, provides support for recommended actions and to facilitate referral of patients to appropriate resources and / or specialties.
• Depending on expanded roles, education and training, the RDA may be privileged to perform X-Rays/imaging, remove sutures and dressings, tooth polishing, take impressions, apply fluoride and administer topical medications.
• May perform the following procedures under direct supervision: obtain endodontic cultures, dry canals with absorbent points, test pulp vitality, place bases and liners on sound dentin, remove excess cement from supragingival surfaces of teeth with hand instrument or floss, placement of post-extraction and periodontal dressings, coronal polishing, temporary cementation and removal of temporary crowns and removal of orthodontic bands.
• Participates in all case management and staff meetings.
• Provides patient education classes as needed.
• Assists in providing in-service training of all clinical, volunteer and adjunct personnel, to ensure optimal performance.
• Accurately completes all forms required for operational and billing efficiency.
• Assist in front office procedures, such as reviewing daily schedules to properly prepare appropriate trays and instruments, to ensure smooth operations.
• Maintain a sterile and organized working environment according to current infection control procedures.
• Ensure preventive maintenance is performed to maintain proper function of all dental equipment.
• Communicates with purchasing department and vendors to assure prompt receipt and store of all supply orders.
• Maintain a positive and professional working relationship with all staff.
• Performs other tasks and duties as required or as assigned by Management Staff.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
• Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
• Excellent Communication Skills
• Excellent Customer Service (Bedside Manners)
• Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
• Ability to work as a team player and work independently
• Reliable transportation
• Must be able to travel from facility to facility
• This position requires 10 % travel outside the local area.
Required Education/Experience and/or Licensure/Certifications
• Dental Assistant Certificate, Certified Dental Assistant, or higher.
• High School Diploma and/or GED equivalent preferred, but not required.
• Proof of completing radiation safety course
• Active CA license and certification as a Registered Dental Assistant
• One (1) year minimum experience as a Registered Dental Assistant
• Knowledge of Dentrix and Digital x-rays, preferred
• Commitment to goals and philosophy of Northeast Community Clinic
• Current CPR and/or BLS Certification
• Valid State Identification
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
• OSHA Category 1 – Involves exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues.
• The work is majority of the time sedentary in nature.
• The employee is regularly required to communicate, frequently required to use repetitive motions, move, remain stationary, regularly push, pull and lift up to 20 pounds and occasionally push, pull and lift up to 40 pounds.
• Must possess mobility to work in a standard office/clinic setting (in some cases both settings) and to use standard office/clinic equipment, including a computer, stamina to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions, read printed materials and use a computer, and communicate in person and over the telephone.
