The HVAC Technician performs skilled Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) work in the installation, modernization, alteration and repair of heating, cooling, and refrigeration systems to ensure a functional, safe and attractive campus, consistent with the educational role and mission of Colorado Mesa University.


OVERVIEW AND ROLE SCOPE OF TEAM AND/OR TASKS
• Performs skilled HVAC work in the installation, modernization, alteration and repair of plumbing, heating and air conditioning systems including;
• Troubleshoot and maintain HVAC and associated systems, including heating/cooling closed loop, domestic hot and cold water, sanitary, and natural gas distribution, pumps, NG boilers, metering valves, heat pumps, hydronic pumps, and associated digital controls;
• Perform required maintenance and/or repair tasks in an efficient manner;
• Respond to work orders that require the repair or replacement of non-functioning HVAC components;
• Provide maintenance of HVAC and associated systems by performing corrosion prevention, water treatment, and other preventative measures;
• Repair or replace standard building HVAC equipment in residence halls, classrooms and other buildings, kitchens and laboratories, including water and gas-delivery;
• Install new standard building HVAC equipment associated with minor remodels;
• Work from standard engineering drawings, or sketches;
• Assist other skilled tradesmen as required;
• Repair refrigeration and air compressors, pumps, and Heat pumps;
• Report without delay or interruption to provide essential or emergency services to ensure health, safety, and welfare.
• Other related duties may be assigned.

ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE FOR RIGHT FIT
• Four years of progressively responsible Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning and mechanical experience including maintenance, repair, replacement, and installation of standard Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning and associated systems and equipment.
• Successful completion of a heating, ventilation and air conditioning apprenticeship program, or higher level, non-correspondence course work in the same fields from an accredited vocational school or university may substitute for the experience on a year-for-year basis.
• Must possess, or obtain within 6 months of hire date, and maintain Universal EPA (Freon Handler) certification under section 608 Refrigerant Recycling Rule of the Clean air act 1990.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Colorado driver’s license.
• The position requires the ability and willingness to work a rotating shift assignment and/or overtime as needed.
