The College of Nursing seeks to establish a pool of qualified applicants for potential employment in future Adjunct Instructor positions at Prairie View A&M University (PVAMU). This is a non-tenure track, part-time (less than 50% effort) position, and responsibilities are limited to teaching the courses listed in this posting.
What you need to know
Salary: Compensation is on a per-course basis and based on factors such as academic discipline, faculty credentialing, experience, etc. Minimum pay is commensurate depending on education and experience.
Selected applicants for the current academic year may teach up to 7 undergraduate/graduate level Semester Credit Hours (SCH) in an assigned semester (less than 50% FTE), within the required discipline, as dictated by student demand during the available semester(s).
Consideration will be given to applications as curricular and student needs arise in the department. Adjunct positions are temporary appointments, assigned per semester, and on an as-needed basis.
Responsibilities:
- Teach practicum courses in area of specialty.
- Work collaboratively with the lead faculty in the implementation of Practicum courses.
- Maintain records as designed and structured.
- Submit attendance and evaluation of the learners’ performance.
- Schedule and maintain weekly office hours and mentor students
- Post grades (mid-term & final); and follow-through in other duties as prescribed.
- Other duties as assigned by department head.
Faculty Requirements:
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing, and Master’s Degree in Nursing
- Experience and credentialing in one or the following specialty areas: Adult Health Nursing, Family Health Nursing, Mental Health, Community, and Leadership Management.
Preferred Qualifications and Skills:
- Prior teaching experience at the collegiate level.
- Doctoral degree in Nursing
- Knowledge of online learning management systems.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Demonstrated knowledge, skills, and service in nursing education and practice.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize tasks.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Sufficient knowledge of the subject area being taught.
- Technical competence in appropriate subject matter and the ability to apply this knowledge to the solution of problems.
- Understanding of the learning and development processes of youth and adults.
- Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to communicate effectively and respectfully with students, staff, and community members.
- Ability to use virtual technology and related software to support online teaching (if required by the hiring department).
- Knowledge of a variety of teaching methods to provide effective learning experiences.
Required Licensure/Certification:
- Current license to practice nursing in the State of Texas or eligible to apply of licensure
Additional Posting Information
This is a general-purpose, adjunct faculty pool for use across multiple disciplines. Applicants in this pool may or may not be selected for employment for the current academic year. This pool will remain open until all adjunct vacancies have been filled. All completed applications will be reviewed on an ongoing basis. Candidates selected for interviews will be contacted by the department as open positions become available.
