Social Dance Instructor Job Description
JOB SUMMARY:
Openings for a 2025-2026 school year Social Dance Instructor in our 7th - 9th grade Ambassador Dance classes. Ambassador dance classes meet once a week, with a social dance instructor joining with a certified PE teacher or Leadership Development classroom teacher to cover the materials provided. The curriculum is set and supported by resources to help instructors effectively teach the skills and concepts. The right candidate will bring their own teaching style and personality to help engage students in a meaningful and enjoyable way.
Classes are taught during the regular school day, which runs from 7:30 AM to 3:00 PM. Each instructor’s specific class schedule will be determined based on their availability and program needs. Class openings are currently at our high school campuses located in Draper (431 W 11913 South) and West Valley (3636 W 3100 S)
Students are taught American-style bronze and silver level social dance steps. Core dances include cha-cha, waltz, swing, and foxtrot, with occasional exposure to bachata, salsa, two-step, and polka.
The dance curriculum also incorporates lessons in social civility, kindness, and skill-based manners related to social interactions. Students should leave the class with a sense of accomplishment, belonging, and overall well-being.
Candidates are expected to believe in their ability to positively impact students' lives and learning. Their mindset should align with and embrace APA’s mission of academic rigor and virtuous character.
Qualifications
Successful candidates will be:
- Professional and 100% dependable
- Willing to learn the APA teaching philosophy and apply it in the classroom
- Strong leaders with effective classroom management skills
- Cheerful, positive, and grounded in uplifting, relationship-based discipline
- Energetic, enthusiastic, and committed to student success
Dependable teachers who are punctual and perform well may be considered for additional events through our character development program, or offered more hours to substitute in other Ambassador or dance classes.
Opportunities at West Valley include assisting the Dance Teacher with the Junior High and High School Ballroom Teams. Opportunities at Draper 3 include supporting leadership workshop events, field trips, and other event needs.
These are part-time positions, starting at $20/hour.
Work may begin as early as August 11, 2025, or as late as September 22, 2025, depending on the role and the candidate’s interest in additional support responsibilities.
