Position Summary

Responsible for assessing spiritual needs, provides spiritual care and pastoral

counseling to patients/families/employees. Staff chaplain is responsible for the

delivery of pastoral care to patients, families, and staff. Chaplain will have the

responsibility to ensure that religious and spiritual needs of patients and their

loved ones are met in assigned areas.

Education

I: Bachelor’s degree

2 Units of Clinical Pastoral Education

Pursuit of Master’s and complete 4 units of Clinical Pastoral Education is

expected.

Licenses and Certification

Licensed, commissioned, or endorsed to ministry by church, diocese, or

denomination.

Ordination optional.

Board Certification eligibility determined by contract through approved

Nationally Recognized agencies.

o APC, SCA, NACC, NAJC, ACCC, NAVAC, HCMA, CPSP

Experience and Skills

Technical Experience: 3 years

Physical Activities

Intermittent hand manipulation required

Intermittent lifting and carrying of 20 pounds

Role Specific Responsibilities

o Assesses, provides, and documents pastoral care to the patients, families

and staff daily. Determine spiritual needs and determines a plan of care.

o Proactively participates in inter-disciplinary delivery of holistic patient

care services through rounding, inter-departmental meetings, and family

conferences.

o Provides appropriate pastoral care through the sacraments, ordinances,

rituals and blessings as needed.

o Maintains appropriate follow-up care with patient/families.

o Performs other duties as assigned.

o Participate in the delivery of pastoral care to patients, families, and staff.

o Support and inter-disciplinary approach to pastoral care.

o Assess patient and family spiritual needs , trauma, and stress; visits newly

admitted patients and patients with special requests in assigned area; visits

critical care waiting areas each day; follows up with patients from

previous visits when appropriate. Provides crisis intervention as necessary

o Documents all visits in the electronic health record.

o Carries out the goals of the pastoral care department

o Organizes worship services in creative and ecumenical ways

o Participates in committees and patient/family conferences to enhance the

continuity of care to patients and families.

o Establishes positive working relationships with all members of the health team

as well as with volunteers

o Offers in-service programs regularly to staff

o Initiates and maintains communication with area clergy through consultation,

notification of needs

o Integrates the patients personal, spiritual and professional knowledge for

plan of care

o Maintains appropriate follow-up care with patient/families.

Compensation (Commensurate with experience):

$24.12 - $37.39
