The Personal Support Assistant will support one or more people living in their own home or in their family’s home located in a suburban or rural community. The Personal Support Assistant is responsible for supporting people with disabilities by facilitating and promoting independence, self-advocacy, and decision making. This role supports each person’s life choices and facilitates opportunities to build relationships and participate fully in their communities. A key component of the position is fostering independence and personal growth. The Personal Support Assistant must meet the qualifications of a Direct Support Professional and complete all required trainings. This position may also require a Medical Technician Certification from the Maryland Board of Nursing.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate is self-motivated, solutions-oriented, and creative in their approach to delivering person-centered supports. They must be able to work independently and as part of a team, remaining calm and productive in response to change or crisis. Candidates should have experience providing respectful, individualized support and be comfortable using technology to complete documentation and communication tasks. Strong interpersonal skills are essential for building trust, promoting self-confidence, and communicating professionally with individuals, families, and other stakeholders.
This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent, with at least one year of experience supporting people with disabilities preferred. Candidates must have a valid Maryland Driver’s License with no egregious violations.
