Position Summary

As an HVAC and Sheet Metal Journeyman you will be responsible for fabricating, installing, and maintaining HVAC ductwork and sheet metal components for commercial and industrial projects. This role requires expertise in reading blueprints, measuring and cutting materials, assembling duct systems, and ensuring all work meets safety and industry standards. You’ll work closely with a team to deliver high-quality installations while troubleshooting and resolving issues as needed. Essential Duties, Roles, Responsibilities & Procedures:

  • Project Review: Analyze blueprints, schematics, and work orders to understand project requirements and system specifications.
  • Installation: Install HVAC systems, including ductwork, piping, air handlers, chillers, boilers, and control systems.
  • System Testing & Commissioning: Perform system testing, start-up procedures, and commissioning to ensure proper operation and efficiency.
  • Maintenance & Repairs: Troubleshoot and repair HVAC systems, diagnose malfunctions, replace defective components, and perform routine maintenance.
  • Quality Control: Ensure all work meets industry standards, company requirements, and client expectations.
  • Safety Compliance: Adhere to OSHA and company safety policies, including proper use of PPE, confined space procedures, and safe handling of refrigerants and equipment.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all HVAC work complies with local, state, and federal codes, including EPA refrigerant handling regulations.
  • Equipment & Tool Maintenance: Maintain tools and HVAC equipment in optimal working condition.
  • Documentation: Keep accurate records of installations, maintenance work, service reports, and refrigerant usage logs.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with engineers, project managers, and other trades to ensure efficient project execution.
  • Training & Mentorship: Assist in training apprentices and junior HVAC technicians to develop their skills.
  • Communication: Maintain clear communication with supervisors, team members, and clients regarding project progress, issues, and solutions.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Education & Certifications:
    • High school diploma or equivalent required.
    • Completion of an apprenticeship program or technical school training in HVAC.
    • HVAC Journeyman License, if required by state or local regulations.
    • EPA Section 608 certification required for refrigerant handling.
    • OSHA 10 certification required.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 5+ years of experience in industrial or commercial HVAC installation, maintenance, and repair.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment:

  • Physical Requirements:
    • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. regularly.
    • Frequent standing, bending, kneeling, and working in confined spaces.
    • Ability to climb ladders and work at heights when necessary.
  • Work Environment:
    • Primarily field-based, working on active construction sites and mechanical rooms.
    • Exposure to outdoor weather conditions, high noise levels, and various temperatures.
    • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) required.
  • Travel Requirements:
    • May require travel between job sites depending on project needs.
