Library Volunteer - Program Lead - Full-time / Part-time

About the Department

This is a volunteer position that will assist the Durango Library Adult Services Department with special programming.

Position Duties

• Prepare and clean up a special program.
• Welcome and help participants throughout the program by answering questions, teaching or giving feedback on activity.
• Work with library staff to plan special events and series.
• Hold participants accountable to the Durango Public Library code of conduct.
• Clearly lay out all expectations for the program participants.
• Arrive to program at the assigned scheduled time.
• Care for all equipment, supplies, and facilities.

Job Qualifications - Knowledge, Skill and Ability
Knowledge of:

• Operations, services, and activities of a Durango Public Library program.
• Prior experience leading programs or teaching.
• Appropriate techniques for dealing with conflict resolution and disputes.
• Reasonable discipline.

Ability to:

• Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

Work Environment:
Periods of mobility with light and heavy physical activity.

Physical Activities:
Ability to bend, stoop, stretch, reach, carry, grasp and turn objects; Ability to climb stairs; and stand, sit and walk for up to 60 minutes at a time; Acceptable verbal and conversation skills to effectively communicate with others.Minimum QualificationsEducation or Formal Training and Licenses:
Prefer formal or informal education or training which ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance.
Experience:
Prefer individuals who have some experience with adults and teens in an educational or recreational environment as well as knowledge of the sport or activity they are coaching or leading.
