Description
The Sterilization Technology Operator, referred to as BT Operator, is responsible for the daily operation of
the sterilization equipment which includes but is not limited to the duties described in the Sterilization
Department Standard Operating Procedure related to their area of expertise (including; BT Chambers, Radio
Frequency Heat Treatment, Kreyenborg Heat Treatment, Neopure Sterilization, Steam Sterilization and other
future Sterilization technology SOPs.
Qualifications
Duties can include, but are not limited to:
- Operate sterilization chambers
- Accurately documenting products treated in each charge/ daily run;
- Receiving drums and changing drums of chemicals;
- Ensuring proper storage of all chemicals related to Sterilization activities
- Loading sterilization equipment (hoppers, chambers) and logging products treated in each charge/chamber load;
- Continuously ensure sterilization systems are running effectively with visual checks;
- Ex: Ensuring temperatures are being maintained, water levels are maintaining, vacuum levels are maintained throughout the day
- Taking samples for micro and pathogen testing as required;
- Application of chemicals according to the validation and requirements by law;
- Unloading the sterilization equipment (whether that be unloading chambers or loose product into bulk intermediate packaging);
- Assist the Sterilization Team maintain communication with the raw materials warehouse to ensure there is enough product to complete the next charge or batch for sterilization;
- Safely operate forklift, scissor lift, hand truck or other material handling equipment as required by job;
- Load, unload and handle hazardous materials;
- Perform warehouse work related to receipt, shipment, storage, distribution and delivery of products and materials;
- Load, unload, move or store items according to standard operating procedures or Supervisor instructions;
- Ability to lift up to 100 lbs.;
- Ability to wear and use a respirator (BT chambers only);
- Must pass annual ETO physical exam (BT chambers only)
In addition to the SOPs pertaining to the operation, cleaning and maintenance of the operator’s area of
expertise, all Sterilization Technology Operators are responsible for following food safety standards, GMPs,
and maintaining a sanitary work environment.
