Assists pharmacist in all aspects of drug preparation and distribution including compounding both chemotherapy and IV admixtures, unit-of-use packaging, automated floor stock maintenance (PYXIS), unit inspection completion, drug box and crash cart replenishment and maintenance, and computer applications to support the overall program for pharmaceutical care.ESSENTIAL DUTIES
1. Responsible for daily surveillance and documentation of USP 797 and USP 800 environmental controls.
2. Ensures completion of daily required cleaning of the IV ante and clean rooms.
3. Supervises environmental service personnel for monthly IV ante and clean room terminal cleaning.
4. Participates and completes routine surface sampling as required by USP 797 and USP 800 regulations.
5. Maintains a working knowledge of the principles HEPA filtered unidirectional airflow and its effects on the compounding area.
6. Completes annual competency as related to IV and chemotherapy compounding.
7. Assists in providing in-service programs on distribution and automation systems to share the latest technology with care providers.
8. Interacts positively with other team members by constructively expressing opinions and actively participating in decision making teams.
9. Assists in the inventory of pharmaceuticals and working with purchasing staff so that stock outages are minimized and appropriate inventory levels are maintained.
10. Maintains positive rapport with various hospital staff in order to quickly resolve conflicts and assure the highest quality of care and moral/ethical obligations.
11. Expresses constructive opinions and actively participates in decision making processes.
12. Helps evaluate processes and procedures which utilize material resources in order to provide cost effective care within budget.
13. Replenishes drug boxes and crash carts from various patient care areas of the hospital.
14. Maintains medication areas on assigned nursing units by completing inspections, reconciling drug stock levels, removing outdated drugs, and reporting findings to the appropriate pharmacist.
15. Processes and maintains the appropriate paperwork associated with bulk product preparation and unit-of-use packaging.
16. Helps file and maintain reports from floor stock distribution replacement in order to comply with pharmacy regulations.
17. Helps maintain accuracy of computer application to assure proper record keeping. Includes checking and responding to EPIC medication messaging, label generation, appropriate patient billing, and communication with others.
18. Performs certain checks on work completed by pharmacy technicians or other support personnel in order to expedite distribution functions and allowing professional staff more time for clinical support.
19. Quickly and accurately prepares patient specific drug orders for final checks before dispensing by the pharmacist.
20. Regularly attends and participates in the structured continuing education program of the hospital/department in order to extend knowledge base and maintain certification.
QUALIFICATIONS
1. Certified Pharmacy Technician by recognized examination.
2. IV competency through ASHP or other recognized professional organization, or obtain within six (6) months following hire.
3. Full working knowledge of USP 797 and USP 800 regulations.
4. Understanding of drug procurement, distribution, and administration to trouble-shoot and solve problems associated with the system.
5. Sound interpersonal, decision-making, investigative, and problem-solving skills.
6. Demonstrates good listening, verbal and written communication skills.
7. Ability to work under pressure in a complex and changing work environment.
8. Provides outstanding customer service and maintains high degree of confidentiality.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions
1. Works in a Pharmacy IV clean room environment. May be required to drive to other locations.
2. Answers telephone calls, uses personal computer and other business machines extensively, which requires the ability to apply finger dexterity. Individual bends and reaches to remove/place pharmaceuticals from/on shelves.
3. Regularly lift or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds.
4. Vision abilities required include up-close vision. Peripheral vision, dept perception and the ability to adjust focus.
5. Must be able to comply with all physical dress and appearance standards as required to work in a USP 797 and USP 800 environment, including but not limited to personal protective equipment, proper clothing and attire, and personal hygiene.
6. May be required to work extra hours, periodically rotate shifts and regular days off, work holidays or emergency shifts as required.
