Job Title: Supervisor II - Operations
Client: Heavy Machine Manufacturing Company
Duration: 12 Months (possible extension)
Location: Ottumwa, IA, 52501
Shift: 3rd Shift | 10 PM – 7 AM | 100% Onsite

Description:
Responsible for achieving departmental goals in safety, quality, schedule, efficiency, and continuous improvement. Acts as first-line liaison between production staff and management. Oversees 8–10 skilled trades personnel along with other production employees in machining, metal fabrication, and welding areas.

Key Responsibilities:

• Supervise and guide departmental plans, ensuring safety, quality, and efficiency.
• Troubleshoot issues in systems, processes, or people to reduce costs and improve performance.
• Administer employee policies, monitor performance, and take corrective actions.
• Ensure proper training, tools, and instructions for all personnel.
• Manage equipment/facility maintenance to maximize uptime.
• Lead continuous improvement activities and enforce safety programs.
• Collaborate with day-shift leaders for smooth handovers.

Required Skills:

• 3+ years supervisory experience in an industrial setting.
• 5+ years in engineering, skilled trades, or related technical fields.
• SAP knowledge; proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and Office.
• Strong leadership, decision-making, and communication skills.
• Ability to work overtime, weekends, and holidays as needed.
• Understanding of safe work practices and maintenance requirements.

Preferred Skills:

• Experience with preventative/predictive maintenance.
• Supervising skilled trades (electricians, pipefitters, millwrights, etc.).
• Exposure to automation, controls, robotics.
• SAP purchase order creation.
• Experience with UAW workforce.

Education:

• Bachelor’s in a technical field or equivalent experience.
