Job Description
Ironworkers Local 597 is seeking skilled and motivated individuals to join our team of union Ironworkers. We provide highly trained manpower for projects across North Florida and Southeast Georgia, including structural steel erection, structural welding, and heavy industrial maintenance.
Position Overview
As a Union Ironworker, you’ll be part of a workforce that builds and maintains the backbone of industrial and commercial infrastructure. Our members work on projects that demand precision, strength, and safety—ranging from erecting structural steel to welding and maintaining industrial facilities.
Key Responsibilities
Structural Steel: Lay out, connect, and erect steel columns, beams, and girders.
Rigging & Hoisting: Safely rig, signal, and guide loads using cranes and hoists.
Structural Welding: Perform SMAW (stick) and FCAW welding on structural members, following AWS D1.1/D1.5 codes and jobsite specifications.
Industrial Maintenance: Maintain, repair, and retrofit industrial plants and mills—including conveyors, platforms, catwalks, and heavy equipment supports.
Safety: Follow OSHA, ANSI, and site-specific safety procedures to protect yourself and your crew.
Qualifications
Prior experience in structural steel erection, welding, or industrial maintenance preferred (but training is available for motivated candidates).
Ability to work at heights and in all weather conditions.
Welding certifications (AWS D1.1/D1.5) are a plus. Testing opportunities available through Local 597.
Must be reliable, safety-focused, and willing to work as part of a team.
