Shop Manager – Custom Furniture & Cabinetry
Location: Sanford, FL
Job Type: Full-Time
Furniture Design Gallery is seeking a hands-on, experienced Shop Manager to oversee our custom furniture and cabinetry production process. This role combines leadership, craftsmanship, and organization, making it ideal for someone who thrives in both the office and workshop.
As Shop Manager, you’ll coordinate projects from start to finish, supervise shop activities, and actively participate in finishing tasks. Your leadership will help ensure every piece meets our high standards of quality while projects are delivered on time.
Key Responsibilities
Finishing & Shop Involvement
- Participate in finishing tasks such as sanding, scuffing, and spraying lacquer-based products.
- Supervise and guide finishing activities, ensuring proper techniques and safety compliance.
- Troubleshoot finishing challenges to maintain consistent craftsmanship and quality.
Project Oversight
- Manage projects from build through finishing, ensuring readiness before installation.
- Monitor timelines and address workflow bottlenecks proactively.
- Enforce quality control checks at each stage of production.
· Oversee routine maintenance of equipment and complete or assign periodic maintenance as required.
Coordination & Procurement
- Oversee procurement of hardware, custom paints, and specialty materials.
- Coordinate with suppliers and internal teams to keep projects on schedule.
- Maintain efficient shop workflow by anticipating supply and material needs.
Office & Communication
- Use programs for scheduling, documentation, and project tracking.
- Send project updates, coordinate supply needs, and communicate with team members.
- Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency.
Team Leadership
- Lead, train, and mentor shop team members.
- Foster a culture of accountability, craftsmanship, and continuous improvement.
- Provide clear direction to ensure deadlines and quality standards are met.
What We’re Looking For
- Proven experience in shop or production management, preferably in furniture or cabinetry.
- Hands-on expertise with finishing techniques, including sanding and lacquer application.
- Strong project management skills and ability to juggle multiple priorities.
- Excellent organizational and communication abilities.
- Competence with Microsoft Office tools.
- A proactive problem-solver who addresses challenges before they become issues.
- Demonstrated leadership and experience training teams.
