Position Description: MICA’s Creative Entrepreneurship (C/ENTR) Area is seeking ‘Curricular Ambassador and Communications Team member’ candidates for the Fall 2025 Semester. The C/ENTR Area is home to MICA’s Creative Entrepreneurship curricular courses and the Creative Entrepreneurship minor. This C/ENTR curriculum blends studio practice with real-world entrepreneurial practices and strategies, helping artists and designers turn their ideas into viable and impactful ventures. This opportunity is open to both domestic and international students (F-1 visa holders).
Position Duties:
The C/ENTR Area Curricular Ambassadors and Communications Team members play a key role in developing, designing and implementing marketing and communications related to the Creative Entrepreneurship curricular area courses, events, guest speakers, faculty, the student entrepreneurship club, et al. The C/ENTR Area is seeking two or three undergraduate students with interest and experience in:
Marketing, communications, and community engagement, and/or
Graphic Design, Illustration, photography and video production, and/or
Social media strategy, content development and platform management.
Led by the C/ENTR Area Head Stephen Rueff, the C/ENTR Curricular Ambassadors and Communications Team members manage an ad-hoc creative agency with the goal of raising awareness about the C/ENTR curricular area, engage students, faculty, staff to participate in C/ENTR curricular courses, events, and activities, and celebrate the students, their work, the clients, faculty and guest speakers participating in the courses.
Under the leadership of the C/ENTR Area Head, the Ambassadors will create communications strategies, develop content, and manage the C/ENTR social media platform(s), the C/ENTR blog, and the C/ENTR pages on the MICA website. Some examples include developing content to be featured on the C/ENTR Blog and Social Media platforms such as:
Creating written or video profiles of students, faculty, professional clients, and guest speakers
Documenting client projects, field trips, C/ENTR Town Halls, etc.
Creating and producing imagery to promote the C/ENTR curricular area to current and prospective students.
Designing posters, postcards, flyers, signage, and more.
Four (4) hours each week are required for in person work sessions and meeting on the MICA campus.
This is a fun, fast-paced position with ongoing and regular contact with MICA students, alumni, faculty, and staff from across the college, as well as with visiting artists, creative sector professionals, and others. The ideal candidate is interested in fostering a creative community for the C/ENTR Area and welcoming others to join us.
Career Goals:
This position is an excellent opportunity to develop portfolio pieces and to learn more about creative entrepreneurship while offering the opportunity to develop skills and experiences in marketing strategy, project planning, and content development. This position requires time management, self-direction, and attention to detail. This position offers a blend of guidance, mentorship, and autonomy.
Responsibilities:
Each week offers new and different projects and opportunities, with the general expectations of the position outlined below:
60% Design and produce written and visual elements, still photography, and video each week of a variety of department activities, including but not limited to: Social Media platforms, Blog posts, Town Hall meetings, C/ENTR Area promotion, and more.
25% Marketing and outreach activities to raise awareness of the C/ENTR Area with current and prospective students, faculty, as well as AE alumni, clients, Visiting Artists, guest presenters, et al
15% Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate promptly communicates with their supervisors and peers, is passionate about nurturing and fostering a creative community, enjoys working with people, is self-directed and detail oriented with strong time management skills, has some experience in design, is comfortable working with the Adobe suite, Google Drive (Docs, Slides, and Sheets), has a positive attitude and a great sense of humor! Knowledge in or curiosity about the topics of creative entrepreneurship, systems thinking, social entrepreneurship, and business as practiced by professional artists and designers is a plus.
