Surgical Technologist – 2nd Shift (Afternoons)
L ocation: Troy, MI 48085
Shift: 3:00 PM – 11:30 PM (8-hour Afternoon Shift)
Schedule: NO weekends or on call
Contract Length: 13 Weeks
Scrub Color: Provided
Certifications Required: BLS (AHA), CST (NBSTSA) - General, Ortho, GYN, URO, Trauma experience required
Pay: $43.00-$50.00 per hour, paid biweekly
Job Summary
The Surgical Technologist works under the supervision and delegatory authority of a surgeon to ensure safe and effective surgical procedures. This role is responsible for maintaining a sterile environment, ensuring equipment functions properly, and supporting the surgical team throughout all phases of the procedure. Surgical technologists combine expertise in aseptic and sterile technique with knowledge of anatomy, surgical procedures, and instrumentation to facilitate optimal patient outcomes.
Essential Functions
- Prepare and anticipate instrumentation, equipment, and supplies needed for each procedure.
- Set up the sterile back table and Mayo stand with instruments, equipment, and solutions.
- Perform instrument, sharps, and sponge counts with the circulator nurse.
- Participate in pre-procedure verifications and briefings.
- Assist with draping the patient and maintaining the sterile field.
- Anticipate surgeon needs and provide appropriate instruments and supplies.
- Maintain strict adherence to sterile technique throughout the procedure.
- Handle and label surgical specimens appropriately.
- Prepare and clean instruments for sterilization post-procedure.
- Assist with cleaning and turnover of operating rooms between cases.
- Participate in debriefing and continuous quality improvement activities.
- Support training and orientation of new staff and students.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the surgical or supervisory team.
Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma or equivalent, Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program preferred.
- Experience: Minimum one (1) year of relevant surgical experience preferred.
- Certifications: BLS (AHA), Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) – NBSTSA.
