Position Overview
Firepit Monitors are part of the team that helps create a warm and welcoming experience for guests during New England Botanic Garden’s Night Lights event, running November 22, 2025 – January 4, 2026. This is an outdoor, evening position.
Responsibilities
- Light and safely maintain one or more Solo Stoves throughout the evening.
- Monitor assigned firepits to ensure visitor safety.
- Provide prepared roasting sticks and restock firewood as needed.
- Keep the area tidy by cleaning up trash and dropped marshmallows.
- Greet and talk with visitors, answer questions, share information about the Garden, and offer directions.
- Monitor the nearby train display (depending on assigned location).
- Create a welcoming and positive experience for every guest.
Training
Firepit Monitors will receive in-person training before November 22. You’ll be supervised by the Senior Operations Manager, with nightly support from the Manager on Duty and Garden Monitor.
Schedule
This is a temporary, hourly, non-exempt position.
- Shifts run 3:30 PM–10:00 PM each evening from November 22 through January 4, excluding Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day. The Garden is open for Night Lights on New Year’s Eve.
- Firepit Monitors work at least two shifts per week.
- Shifts are self-assigned via Microsoft Teams, which can be accessed by computer or phone.
Qualifications
Qualifications
- Must be at least 16 years old. Work permits are required for ages 16–17 before the first shift.
- Able to work independently and as part of a team.
- Must demonstrate responsibility and sound judgment.
- Experience working with the public is helpful.
- Must have reliable transportation to the Garden.
Physical Demands / Working Conditions:
- Use provided hand tools to safely open, tend, and load firepits.
- Lift up to 20 pounds, and bend or twist as needed.
- Sit or stand for extended periods.
- Use standard communication devices (e.g., radio or phone).
- Work outdoors in all weather conditions.
