Description
Under general supervision, the Player Ambassador/Starter interacts with all guests in a professional and courteous manner while starting and monitoring course play. This position has frequent guest contact and provides services that ensure each guest receives an exceptional experience. The Player Ambassador/Starter is also responsible for observing activity on the golf course, maintaining awareness of guest safety and course conditions. This includes politely requesting that non-golfers or trespassers leave the course when necessary, escalating concerns to management as appropriate, and remaining alert to animals or other creatures on the course to help maintain a safe and enjoyable environment.
Duties and Responsibilities

Guest Experience & Customer Service
- Meet and greet all guests in a warm, friendly, and welcoming manner.
- Provide exceptional customer service, including greeting guests on the first tee and offering items such as scorecards and pencils.
- Maintain contact and communication with guests throughout the day to assess their on-course experience and share concerns or issues with management as needed.
Course Monitoring & Play Management
- Drive the course to monitor pace of play, etiquette, and overall golfer experience.
- Assist bottleneck groups to improve pace by helping, as necessary, with repairing divots, raking bunkers, or other quick course-care actions.
- May serve as a spotter and assist golfers on difficult or “blind” holes.
- Maintain a radio on hand at all times to communicate with Golf Shop staff regarding tee time modifications, no-shows, and member names, ensuring timely updates and seamless operations.
- Stay alert to wildlife or other creatures on the course and communicate any potential safety or play-impacting issues to management.
Event & Tournament Support
- Assist with large and small group golf events by labeling bags, loading/unloading golf bags, and shuttling golfers to the range.
Course Care & Maintenance Support
- Pick up trash such as tees, cigarette butts, and garbage around the course.
- Empty garbage cans around the course or halfway houses as needed.
- Check on-course restrooms for cleanliness and product refills when passing by; resolve any issues or escalate to management if needed.
- Swap out inoperable golf carts on the course, towing carts back when necessary.
- Pick up range balls in the fairway and return them to the driving range.
Safety & Incident Response
- May assist in completing accident and incident reports for golfers.
- May be required to politely request that non-golfers and trespassers vacate the golf course, escalating to management if additional support is needed.
- Observe and report any safety hazards or unusual activity on the course to management.
Cross-Departmental Support
- Support other departments with their duties when requested or assigned.
Other
- Attend meetings and trainings, as scheduled.
- Conform with all safety standards and use of all appropriate safety equipment.
- Performs all other duties, as assigned.
Qualifications
Education and Experience Required
High school / GED. Minimum one (1) year of participation in the game of golf on a recreational basis. Previous experience in a customer-service-related position.
Skills and Abilities- Knowledge of: Has an understanding of the rules and regulations of golf and proper course etiquette.
- Strong communication skills with guests and fellow team-mates in a professional, friendly manner.
- Possess an outgoing personality with a desire to positively represent the golf course.
- Operate and drive a golf cart.
- Work independently in the absence of supervision.
- Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Keep accurate records of daily activities.
- Ability to be flexible and adapt to changing needs.
- Ability to use Radio.
Required:
- Ability to use employee self-service on company’s human resources/payroll database.
Required because of driving golf carts: Valid State Driver’s License
Other
Ability to work schedule required to fulfill duties of position. At times, individual must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with ability to handle and prioritize multiple, competing tasks and demands and to seek supervisory assistance as appropriate. Must seek approval from supervisor before incurring overtime, Schedule flexibility which may include weekends and holidays.
Part-Time Positions:
- Busy Season: You are expected to be available to work the hours required for the shift/position. Generally speaking, we require a minimum of 3 shifts per week, including weekends and 4 shifts in the weeks following overseeding.
- Non-Peak Season: A minimum of 1 shift per pay period is required.
- You are expected to work the schedule assigned, which may include weekends and holidays, in alignment with business needs.
- You are expected to be reliable and dependable, meeting attendance requirements including requesting time off in advance.
Full-Time Positions:
- Busy Season: You are expected to be available to work up to or near 40 hours per week, including covering shifts and working overtime as needed.
- Non-Peak Season: A minimum of 30 hours per workweek is required. You may be scheduled for additional hours if business needs require it.
- You are expected to work the schedule assigned, which may include weekends and holidays, in alignment with business needs.
- You are expected to be reliable and dependable, meeting attendance requirements including requesting time off in advance.

- Lifting and carrying equipment, such as golf bags, which may weigh up to 50 pounds or more.
OSHA Category:
Category II: Position Personnel who engage in activities normally without exposure to blood or body fluids, but where exposure may occur in the event of an emergency.
