Job Summary:
The Senior Portable Metrology Engineering Technologist will work under the direction of the Quality Manager performing laser inspections and generating dimensional reports for fixtures and combat vehicle structures in support of various military programs (e.g., AMPV, M88, Bradley, ACV, M109A7, M992A3). The role involves close collaboration with Design Engineering, Program Management, Quality, and Manufacturing teams to address product issues, create inspection plans, and support continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct laser inspections of new designs and design modifications for integration into manufacturing.
- Generate detailed dimensional and inspection reports for Manufacturing, Engineering, and Quality teams.
- Review laser data and develop preventative and corrective action plans.
- Create and deliver quality inspection plans and reports providing actionable data to internal and external stakeholders.
- Interface with Design Engineering, Program Management, Quality, and Manufacturing to resolve complex product issues.
- Retrieve and communicate quality data and inspection results to relevant teams.
- Support weekend shifts (Fri-Sun, 5 am – 5 pm) following a 2-3 week training period on 1st shift, depending on experience.
- Work independently with minimal supervision, demonstrating strong self-motivation.
Required Skills:
- Comprehensive understanding and application of quality assurance principles, theories, and concepts.
- Ability to provide consistent, technical solutions to complex problems.
- Solid working knowledge of GD&T for inspections and interfacing with Design and Manufacturing.
- Experience with portable metrology instruments such as FARO Edge ARMS and Laser Tracking machines, or similar tools.
- Working knowledge of software that interfaces with portable metrology equipment; strong preference for Polyworks.
- Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Preferred Skills:
- Experience in a DOD manufacturing environment.
- Expert proficiency in Polyworks.
- Certified in ASME Y14.5.
Experience Required:
BS Degree with 2 years of relevant experience, or
Associate Degree with 4 years of relevant experience, or
High School diploma (or equivalent) with 8 years of relevant experience.
Education Required:
BS Degree, Associate Degree, or High School diploma as detailed above.
