About this job
Perform routine maintenance on all plumbing equipment, including packing and replacing valves, medical gas piping, and installing new plumbing fixtures throughout the Medical Center. You will perform preventative maintenance procedures and ensure a prompt response to requests for repairs. Modify and expand these systems as required for building infrastructure remodels and expansions. Plumbers will work in cooperation with other skilled crafts mechanics to ensure all specification, legislation and policies are met, and to ensure efficient completion of projects. Providing adequate services will ensure that all water supply networks, waste and drainage systems are installed, repaired and maintained to meet all standards of building codes and safety.

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position
- Required to hold a valid California driver's license, have a driving record that is in accordance with local policies/procedures, and/or enroll in the California Employer Pull Notice Program
- Must possess a certificate of completion from a recognized union apprenticeship program, University apprenticeship program, accredited trade school or have the equivalent amount of experience and training comparable to a journey level craftsperson with plumbing maintenance experience.
- Several years of hands-on experience in pipefitting, water systems, and drainage solutions.
- Hands-on experience applying plumbing codes in system installation and maintenance.
- Experience diagnosing and resolving complex plumbing issues.
- Exhibits an extensive background in plumbing and medical gases (life support systems, pumps, motors and compressors)
- Knowledge of water distribution and wastewater disposal in commercial, industrial and healthcare buildings
- Knowledge of relevant building codes, legislation, regulations, policies and procedures, installation and maintenance
- Skills to read and interpret blueprint and specification books
- Skills and knowledge of the proper use of operational characteristics of maintenance equipment and tools
Preferred Qualifications
- Comprehensive experience with all aspects of hospital plumbing maintenance.
- Must possess effective verbal, listening, written and presentation skills
- Demonstrate basic computer skills.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills.

Department Overview
The Plant Operations & Maintenance (PO&M) Department is a 24 hour, seven day a week operation responsible for the operation, repair and maintenance of buildings, systems, and grounds at the UC Davis Health System that includes 148 acres and structures that total 4 million GMSF. Plant Operations & Maintenance is one of the largest operations and maintenance support providers to clinical, administrative, research, SOM and SON departments throughout the Health System. UC Davis Health System is one of several UC campuses that have their own cogeneration, central power plants. Cogeneration (Combined Heat and Power or CHP) is the simultaneous production of electricity and heat, both of which are used throughout the Medical Center Campus and is supported by Plant Operations & Maintenance 24x7x365.
