Practice Overview
Thurmond Eye Associates, a trusted provider of high-quality ophthalmic care for over 60 years, is seeking a Comprehensive Ophthalmologist with strong interest and experience in cataract and glaucoma management and surgery.
With seven clinical locations across the Rio Grande Valley and a dedicated outpatient surgery center (Raider Surgical Center), we serve a diverse and growing patient population that requires comprehensive medical and surgical eye care. This is a high-volume practice supported by well-trained staff and administrative infrastructure through Ascend Vision Partners, allowing physicians to focus on clinical excellence.
Position Highlights
Perform advanced cataract surgery, including phacoemulsification and premium IOLs
Diagnose and manage glaucoma, with access to MIGS and laser procedures
High surgical volume from day one, with a built-in referral network
Dedicated block time in ASC with state-of-the-art equipment
Strong OD-MD co-management model in place
Collaborative team of ophthalmologists and optometrists
Efficient clinical flow supported by 1 scribe and 2 technicians per provider

Ideal Candidate
MD or DO with board certification/eligibility in Ophthalmology
Fellowship training in glaucoma is welcome but not required
Strong interest in cataract surgery and managing glaucoma
Comfortable practicing in a high-volume, fast-paced clinical setting
Spanish-speaking ability is a plus but not required
Enthusiastic about community-based, team-oriented care
