Degree in American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreting, certified ASL Interpreter credentials, and 1+ year of experience as an ASL Interpreter in educational settings. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.
A K-12 school in Frisco City, AL, is seeking a skilled Sign Language Interpreter to support students throughout the school year. This contract position plays a critical role in facilitating munication between deaf or hard-of-hearing students and their peers, teachers, and school staff, ensuring an inclusive educational environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Interpret spoken language into American Sign Language (ASL) and vice versa during classroom instruction, meetings, and school events
- Provide accurate, clear, and culturally appropriate interpretation to support student learning and engagement
- Collaborate closely with teachers, students, and educational staff to meet individual student needs
- Assist in creating an accessible learning environment by advocating for munication access and understanding
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional ethical standards in all interactions
Qualifications:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language and English, with demonstrated interpreting skills
- Previous experience as a sign language interpreter, preferably in a K-12 educational setting
- Familiarity with educational terminology and classroom procedures
- Strong interpersonal and munication skills
- Ability to work independently and collaborate within a school team
