KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
Knowledge: Reasonable knowledge of methods, procedures and supplies used in custodial cleaning and grounds maintenance on a large scale.
Skills: Skill in operating cleaning and grounds maintenance equipment. Skill in using appropriate cleaning products.
Abilities: Able to use and care for equipment. Able to follow established routines. Able to understand verbal and oral instructions. Able to adjust to changes in priorities and work well under pressure. Able to manage time efficiently. Able to have the physical strength to withstand the strain of performing manual tasks for extended periods. Able to courteously meet and deal with other employees and the public.
REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
Experience in building and grounds maintenance or any satisfactory combination of experience and training which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the above-described duties. At time of appointment, must possess a valid Oregon driver's license, or be able to attain one within 6 months of hire, and maintain an acceptable driving record. Must pass a pre-employment criminal history background investigation and a CJIS criminal history/background check before becoming a regular hire.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
None. The employee receives general instructions regarding the work to be done and the timeframes. Recurring routine assignments are independently performed by the employee on the basis of past experience. Work is checked upon completion.
Work is performed within department policies and procedures, building maintenance and gardening references, and equipment manuals. Guidelines are closely followed with little need for deviation.

Work is performed both inside and outside. It can involve bending, climbing, kneeling, heavy lifting up to 50 pounds, pushing, pulling, stooping, extended periods of standing and walking, and exposure to cleaning and landscaping chemicals. Safety precautions eliminate most dangers.
