Position Title: Food Technologist - Quality Control

Summary
The client is a specialty food manufacturer and custom copacking partner for a diverse range of dry goods (seasonings/mixes) to liquid/viscous products (sauces/dressings). We are seeking a highly analytical and detail-oriented Food Technologist to join the Quality team. This role is essential for maintaining the highest standards of food safety and quality assurance across our high-volume production lines. The technologist will be responsible for the daily execution of QC checks, enforcement of GMP and HACCP standards, and preparation for all regulatory and third-party audits. This position serves as the critical link between the science of food safety and the execution of world-class manufacturing.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Food Technologist is responsible for applying advanced food science knowledge to the following core duties:
Quality Assurance & Compliance:
* Enforce and administer all Quality Control policies throughout the manufacturing facility, including strict adherence to GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice), sanitation programs, and corporate food safety standards.
* HACCP Planning and Implementation: Apply food science knowledge to determine the best approach for hazard analysis, critical control point monitoring, and overall food safety plan implementation.
* Conduct routine checks and formally report any deficiencies found during facility inspections directly to the QA Manager.
* Provide assistance to the production team to ensure quality objectives are consistently met, particularly regarding the proper use of correct labels, lot numbers, and packaging materials.
Testing and Documentation:
* Perform rigorous start-up and hourly line quality control checks for production lines, including, but not limited to: pressure tests, weight checks, seals integrity, and foreign material detection.
* Conduct food analysis and routine quality control testing for raw materials and finished products, applying specialized food science techniques.
* Defective Product Management: Promptly place defective products on hold and conduct thorough investigations to determine root causes and implement corrective actions.
* Prepare, write, and maintain all QC documentation and formal reports, ensuring traceability and compliance.
* Prepare and issue Certificates of Analysis (COA) for finished products.
Audits and Training:
* Be responsible for the preparation and execution of all quality control audits conducted by state inspectors and third-party auditors.
* Support the training and mentorship of production staff on quality procedures and food safety protocols.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
* Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Food Science, Food Technology, Food Safety, Chemistry, Microbiology, or a closely related scientific field.
* A minimum of 2 years of direct Quality Control or Quality Assurance experience within a food or beverage manufacturing environment.
* Demonstrated knowledge of and practical experience with HACCP planning and implementation.
* Familiarity with production environments handling both dry goods (powders, mixes) and liquid/viscous products (sauces).
Preferred Qualifications
* Advanced degree (MS) in Food Science or a related field.
* Experience in a copacking/contract manufacturing environment.
* Working knowledge of GFSI (Global Food Safety Initiative) standards (e.g., SQF, BRC).
