Position Title:OR Circulator / Scrub RN Ambulatory Surgery Center
Department:Operating Room
Reports To: Nurse Manager and Nurse Administrator of OR Services
Location:New York, Queens

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as circulating RN (and/or scrub RN when required) during ophthalmology procedures (e.g., cataract surgery, LASIK,) and pediatric dental surgeries (under sedation, general anesthesia).
  • Prepare the operating room: verify equipment, instruments, implants, ensure sterile field integrity, manage surgical count, coordinate with surgical techs and scrub staff.
  • Assist with positioning, prepping the patient, ensuring surgeon/anesthesia needs are met, and that safety protocols (time-out, site verification) are followed.
  • Monitor intraoperative patient status, collaborate with anesthesia and surgical team, anticipate needs and respond to changes in patient or surgical condition.
  • Document operative care, assist with turnover between cases to maintain efficient flow, manage inventory and sterile supplies for ophthalmology & dental surgical cases.
  • Crossassist in pre-op/post-op as needed (depending on staffing) to provide a seamless workflow in the ASC environment.
  • Maintain compliance with ASC accreditation standards (e.g., CMS, AAAHC), infection control and OR safety guidelines.

Qualifications

  • New York State RN license required.
  • BLS and ACLS certifications required, PALS desirable for pediatric dentistry cases. CNOR credential preferred or willing to obtain.
  • Previous OR experience in ophthalmology and/or pediatric dentistry preferred (1-3 years minimum).
  • Strong knowledge of sterile technique, surgical instrumentation, ophthalmic and dental surgical procedures.
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills; ability to anticipate and respond to surgical team and patient needs quickly.
  • Flexibility to adapt to a mixed surgical case load (ophtho + pediatric dentistry) and variable case volumes.

Schedule & Environment

  • Typical shift: Monday-Friday, day shift, Weekends - sometimes.
  • High-volume, fast-paced ASC environment with emphasis on efficient turnover and high patient satisfaction.
  • May participate in both ophthalmology and pediatric dentistry surgical suites; need comfort with both age populations and sedation/anesthesia protocols.
