Software Dev QA Engineer

Fortinet is developing high-performance security platforms for data center and carrier/service-provider networks. We are looking for a QA Engineer to join the FortiGate Chassis platform team and help validate high-end firewall systems designed for high throughput, scalability, resiliency, and availability.

The role focuses on distributed state synchronization, session-aware traffic distribution, system resiliency, performance, scalability, and automation. Our ideal candidate has strong networking and Linux fundamentals, good troubleshooting and scripting skills, and enjoys working with complex systems and new technologies.

Job Duties

• Design, execute, and automate functional, system, performance, scalability, and reliability testing for FortiGate Chassis platforms.
• Validate synchronization and consistency of configuration, FIB/FDB, sessions, and other runtime states across chassis components.
• Validate packet forwarding and session-aware load balancing/distribution under high-throughput and large-scale traffic conditions.
• Test system resiliency, state recovery, and service continuity during module failure, restart, failover, upgrade, and other system transitions.
• Troubleshoot complex system and data-plane issues using packet captures, logs, counters, and system diagnostic tools.
• Develop and maintain test automation and tools using Python and Bash.
• Work closely with Development and QA teams to understand new features, identify defects, and improve test coverage.
• Design and maintain test environments and identify required networking and test equipment.

Job Experience Required

• 3+ years of experience in networking, system testing, software QA, or a related engineering role.
• Strong understanding of TCP/IP, Layer 2/3/4 packet forwarding, VLAN, LAG/LACP, ARP/ND, NAT, and HA.
• Good understanding of stateful networking, forwarding tables, MAC/FDB tables, sessions, and traffic distribution.
• Strong hands-on Linux and system troubleshooting skills.
• Good Python and Bash scripting/automation skills.
• Experience with packet analysis and diagnostic tools such as Wireshark and tcpdump.
• Familiarity with virtual machines and container technologies.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with high-performance firewalls, routers, switches, or chassis-based networking platforms.
• Experience with distributed networking systems, state synchronization, HA/failover, or system recovery.
• Experience with traffic generators, performance/load testing, and large-scale network testing.
• Hands-on experience with virtualization and container technologies such as KVM, VMware, Docker, or LXC.
• Networking certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, or Fortinet NSE are a plus.

Educational Requirement

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $136,000-$176,000. Fortinet offers employees a variety of benefits, including medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurance, 401(k), 11 paid holidays, vacation time, and sick time, as well as a comprehensive leave program.

Wage ranges are based on various factors, including the labor market, job type, and job level. Exact salary offers will be determined by factors such as the candidate's subject knowledge, skill level, qualifications, experience, and geographic location.

All roles are eligible to participate in the Fortinet equity program. Bonus eligibility is reviewed at the time of hire and annually at the Company's discretion.
