American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Oncology unit position requiring a minimum of 2 years of inpatient experience and the ability to administer chemotherapy.
Details- Inpatient Med/Surg unit with a primary oncology patient population
- Patient diagnoses include AKI, sepsis, cancer, septic shock, pain, OD, malignant neoplasms, ARF, encephalopathy, FTT, diabetic foot ulcers, and heparin drips
- Chemotherapy and biotherapy administration via IV, PO, or injection is part of regular patient care
- Target patient ratio is 1:6; ratios may be higher during periods of increased census (daily census: 42)
- Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts (18:45–07:15)
- 13–26 week contracts accepted
- Every other weekend required
- Floating required to similar units and alternate care locations, including inpatient holding in the ED
- Call required if called off on a pre-scheduled shift; called-out shifts must be made up
- Epic (EMR) experience used for documentation; Pyxis for medication management; SBAR for communication
- Active NC or Compact RN license required (may be submitted with license pending)
- Current BLS certification required
- Oncology certification (OCN) preferred
- Minimum 2 years of relevant inpatient RN experience required
- Required skills: Med/Surg, colostomy care, accessing ports, blood product administration, central line blood draw, peripheral line care/management, PICC line management, heparin drips, insulin, surgical drains, chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur-evac), nasal cannula, non-invasive airway management, isolation precautions, and wound care/wound vac
- Must be able to administer chemotherapy
- Preferred: CPI certification and charge nurse experience
- Must pass EKG testing prior to start
- Two professional references from a manager or supervisor within the past 2 years required (pending at time of consideration is acceptable)
- Orientation consists of 24 hours (2 shifts), with pre-start modules of approximately 8–10 hours (completed via online learning, Zoom, webinar, or in-person classes)
- Scrub color requirement: navy blue and white
- Candidate must work 2 out of 3 major holidays
- RTO is not permitted during the first week of assignment due to orientation; up to 7 days of RTO may be auto-approved if it does not fall on a holiday
- Contract staff are expected to participate on a Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team and may be required to report during catastrophic events, mass casualty incidents, or disasters
- Attendance at monthly staff meetings is expected
- Previous permanent, PRN, or EP employees of this health system must wait 12 months before being considered as a traveler; facility rehire approval is required
- Local candidates are accepted; candidates residing within 50 miles of the facility are subject to a local pay rate
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Travel pairs are allowed; each traveler must have their own transportation and be comfortable with potentially different schedules
- Contracts of 13 weeks minimum are required, with the option for longer engagements
