Position Overview
World Book is seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to join our Finance team. The Senior Accountant plays a key role in supporting key accounting processes and strategic finance initiatives. This role oversees complex accounting areas, mentors staff, and collaborates cross-functionally to enhance processes, controls, and reporting.

Key Responsibilities
- Financial Close, Reporting and Compliance
- Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial statements.
- Oversee accounting over Working Capital, Inventory, Payroll, as well as advanced treatments around Capitalization and Amortization of Software, Pre-Publication and Commissions.
- Support tax filings, budgeting, and ad hoc financial analysis.
- Business Partnership and Reporting
- Partner with and oversee planning and analysis around Research and Development and General and Administrative functions.
- Assist in variance analysis and management reporting.
- Process Improvement & Controls
- Ensure adherence to U.S. GAAP and internal accounting policies; maintain and enhance internal controls over financial reporting and audit readiness.
- Recommend and implement accounting process improvements and automation opportunities, including ERP enhancements and data integrity.
- Mentor Staff Accountant and other special projects as directed by Finance leadership.
Qualifications & Skills
- 35 years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 2 years in a senior or lead role.
- Strong understanding of GAAP and excellent problem-solving skills; CPA or progress toward certification is strongly preferred.
- A drive for process improvement and attention to detail ensuring mistake-free work in a highly repeatable and scalable way.
- Proficiency in ERP/accounting systems (e.g., Acumatica, NetSuite, SAP, or equivalent) and Excel.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or related field.
Location
World Book maintains a hybrid work schedule with two days per week at the corporate headquarters located at 180 N. LaSalle St., Suite 900, Chicago, IL 60601.
Compensation
$70,000 to $80,000 annual salary
