Job Description
Step Into the Role

Picture your day as the go-to engineer for high-precision, high-volume machining. Your morning might begin by reviewing capital equipment proposals for your area, followed by refining tool layouts for a new family of parts. By midday, you’re hands-on at the machines—proving out CNC lathe programs, dialing in a cam-operated screw machine, or perfecting an infeed centerless grind. In the afternoon, you lead an APQP session using the Project Launch Guide, update cost standards in MFGPro, and coach operators on APS-based problem solving and SPC. You wrap up by documenting the day’s process improvements and ensuring QMS and EMS requirements are met.

What You’ll Tackle
  • Shape machining strategy by advising on capital equipment needs for your area.
  • Introduce modern manufacturing techniques that boost product line efficiency.
  • Design and optimize tool layouts for CNC, cam-operated screw machines, and grinding processes to maximize quality and throughput.
  • Develop and maintain precise process documentation and clear work instructions.
  • Demonstrate and teach structured problem solving, including the Autocam Production System (APS).
  • Create and maintain cost standards using corporate software systems (MFGPro).
  • Prepare accurate quotes for new parts and update pricing for existing customer components.
  • Engineer manufacturing processes and tooling for both current products and new project start-ups.
  • Set up and operate CNC lathes, cam-operated screw machines, and centerless grinders (including infeed).
  • Perform precision grinding, including between-centers grinding and other advanced methods.
  • Facilitate continuous improvement meetings and build/update CI plans for your area.
  • Procure and fast-track tools, parts, and materials for successful launches using the Project Launch Guides.
  • Lead APQP teams using the Project Launch Guide to hit quality and timing targets.
  • Produce clean, unambiguous technical sketches and interpret drawing standards and GD&T.
  • Train operators on machine operations, document interpretation, SPC, and process improvement activities.
  • Follow and promote the Quality Management System (QMS) and Environmental Management System (EMS).
Qualifications
  • BS in Engineering or technical training with 5+ years of equivalent experience; or 15+ years of equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrated experience with CNC lathes, cam-operated screw machines, and centerless grinding equipment.
  • Hands-on capability with infeed centerless grinders and between-centers grinding.
  • Proven ability to design and implement tool layouts for machining processes.
  • Deep knowledge of machining fundamentals and precision tolerances.
  • Working knowledge of shop safety standards and best practices.
  • Comfort working independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
