Rhino Medical is leading the charge seeking an experienced Emergency Medicine Physician for a locum tenens assignment beginning in January in Grundy, Virginia. This is an excellent opportunity to step into a low-volume, well-supported rural emergency department with stable staffing and predictable patient flow.

This assignment offers 12-hour shifts, minimal admissions, reliable specialty support, and a very manageable annual volume — ideal for EM, FM, or IM trained physicians with emergency experience.

Assignment Overview

• Location: Grundy, Virginia
• Department: Emergency Medicine
• Start Date: January (ongoing need)
• Contract Type: Locum Tenens
• Shifts:
  • 8:00 AM – 8:00 PM
  • 8:00 PM – 8:00 AM
• Annual ED Volume: ~10,000
• Beds: 9 ED Beds + 4 Fast-Track Bays
• EMR: CPSI
• APP Support: Intermittent (primarily during surge periods)

ED Environment & Clinical Expectations

• Manageable patient load with steady but low volume
• Typical transfer destinations include regional Ballad Health hospitals & Clinch Valley
• Transfer Rate: ~9%
• Admission Rate: ~11%
• Full ancillary support and reliable community hospital resources

Additional Hospitalist Details
While this assignment is focused on EM coverage, physicians may interface with the inpatient team. For context:

• Hospitalist EMR: MediTech
• Average Daily Census: 10–12
• Average Nightly Admissions: ~1
• ICU: Typically 1–2 patients on service

Specialty Support:

• General Surgery
• Cardiology
• Urology
• Pulmonology

Procedures:

• Required: None
• Preferred: Intubations & Central Line Placement

Candidate Requirements

• Active & unrestricted Virginia medical license
• Board Certified or Board Eligible (EM, FM, or IM accepted with solid EM experience)
• Current ACLS, ATLS, and PALS
• Comfortable managing all ages in a rural ED environment
• Clean background preferred for expedited credentialing
