Clinical Laboratory Technician - Mayo Clinic

The Neuroimmunology Laboratory is at the forefront of clinical autoimmune serology, providing a unique service that bridges autoimmune neurology practice with cutting-edge research. Our laboratory specializes in tests performed on serum and spinal fluid to aid in the diagnosis of autoimmune disorders affecting the brain, nerve, and muscle, which often reflect immune responses initiated by an unsuspected cancer. These disorders are commonly mistaken for multiple sclerosis, stroke, and degenerative disorders. We utilize various methodologies including fluorescence microscopy, radioimmunoassays, flow cytometry, western blot, ELISA, and chemiluminescence assays. The lab is experiencing rapid growth, having conducted approximately 2.2 million tests in 2022, and is currently implementing automation to enhance testing efficiency.

Responsibilities

• Conduct serum and spinal fluid tests to diagnose autoimmune disorders.
• Utilize fluorescence microscopy, radioimmunoassays, flow cytometry, western blot, ELISA, and chemiluminescence assays.
• Participate in both automated and manual testing processes.
• Focus on specimen storage organization.
• Troubleshoot and maintain laboratory instrumentation.

• Bachelor's degree in chemistry or a human biological science such as Biology, Chemistry, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Animal Science, Marine Biology, or Neuroscience.
• Experience with laboratory and medical laboratory testing.
• Proficiency in instrumentation experience and troubleshooting.
• Background in chemistry and biology.

• Healthcare background is advantageous.
• Master's degree accepted, but not PhD or engineering degrees.
• Willingness to accept OPT candidates.

The position operates on a shift schedule of Wednesday to Saturday from 9 PM to 7:30 AM, with training occurring Monday to Thursday during the same hours. Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $25.00/hr.
