Help Pets Find Second Chances

Alaska SPCA is hiring a detail-driven, people-centeredIntake & Adoption Coordinator to guide animals and adopters through every step of the journeyfrom first contact to gotcha day and beyond. This role keeps information accurate, decisions timely, and barriers low while safeguarding animal welfare and an excellent client experience.

What youll do:

  • Coordinate intakes: schedule and triage requests, collect histories, ensure vaccines/ID/photos are completed, and set humane, efficient flow through the shelter.
  • Champion adoptions: counsel adopters, match needs to animals, complete applications/contracts, and close same-day decisions when appropriate.
  • Keep data clean: maintain complete, accurate records in shelter software; track returns, LOS, and outcomes; generate simple reports.
  • Market animals: ensure every animal has clear photos, a compelling bio, and up-to-date behavior/medical notes; collaborate with the Development Team on promotions.
  • Uphold standards: apply SOPs consistently, escalate concerns appropriately, and model safe animal handling and compassionate customer service.
  • Team & volunteers: coordinate handoffs with vet/shelter staff, support volunteers/fosters with clear instructions and follow-through.

Youll be successful here if you have:

  • Experience in sheltering, veterinary, rescue, or high-volume customer service.
  • Sound judgment, tact, and the ability to de-escalate and make timely decisions.
  • Strong organization and accuracy with forms, data, and follow-ups.
  • Comfort handling dogs and cats of varied sizes/temperaments (training provided).
  • Tech confidence (email, docs, spreadsheets, and shelter software).
  • Ability to work a full-time, onsite schedule that includes Saturday and Sunday.

Nice to have:

  • Prior adoption counseling or intake coordination
  • Photo/bio writing skills; basic marketing know-how
  • Knowledge of behavior basics and fear-free handling

Physical & other requirements

  • Lift/carry up to ~50 lbs; stand/walk for extended periods
  • Valid drivers license required
  • Background check required
